Does Nero work like dvd shrink

Will nero burn back-up movies like dvd-shrink. Meaning will it compress the movie files for me to fit on one disc?

Yes, just use the nero recode 2 application found in the ultra edition or if you've purchased a plugin (like the nero digital plugin) to activate this application, but it will not decrypt a copy protected DVD, for that you'll need anydvd.
