I've used DVD Shrink for over a year now, but have noticed lately that when I back up anything now, the preview screen will pause the video for a second, continue for a few seconds, pause, continue...
I've never had this problem before. Would re-installing take care of the problem, or could it be early signs that my DVD burner is about to crap out?

You loose nothing by re-installing, so try that first....

Just tried uninstall and reinstall. No luck. I have pumped quite a few DVD's through this burner in the past year. My estimate would be around 500-600.

Nah 500-600 depending on the burner shouldn't be a problem if a good one. If using the same one to rip and burn may wear it out a little sooner. If you ran that many thru you may just need to clean the lens. Run a lens cleaning disc thru it.
Do the backup's play okay?

My backups have played well. Never had any problems with it.
I use a Sony Burner and I do rip and burn with the same drive. I'll have to go get my hands on a lens cleaning disc now. Thanks for the tip.
*edit*
Does the lens cleaning disc have to say DVD on it or can I use something like this:

For that price give it a shot. I use Maxell's Thunderon - they're about $15 each.

Well, as they always say, you get what you pay for. It was nothing but a piece of crap. No instructions or anything whatsoever. Guess I'll have to splurg a little.
Thank god for Best Buy gift cards. :)

Ain't that the truth - but a few bucks why not try it. To use the disc all you do is insert it in your drive. There should be what looks like a little brush on the disc. You should then get a menu and would pick something like clean lens, dvd etc.
But gotta love those gift cards!

Tried the cleaning disc and it didn't seem to improve anything. And it doesn't really fit in this section, but all of a sudden Nero takes a long time to burn. It took over 30 min. to do 50%, and my read buffer stays at 70-72%. Gonna see what DVDShrink does right now. I think it might be time for a new burner. :(

@Hoppy1980 - a-ha, some clues there...let's try something..
if you use Nero 6, let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.
if you use Nero 7, let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\NeroHistory but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '5C80' or similar.
either way, you can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

- Nero's not your problem here, however you may as well update to latest decent 6.x version which is 6.6.0.18 - http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

- you're burning too close to outer edge of discs (i see you're using decent discs but i personally always stick to 4300MB, it's not worth risking it in my humble opinion). Set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space
