Hello again, I learned how to burn flawless dvd copies from some good help on this site and I appreciate all the help. I been burning with DVD Shrink 3.2 for about 2 years now with 400+ backups with no problems but as of last night I got the following error and I am wondering if my DVD rom is going because I even tried cleaning the reader on my drives and I still get the following error
DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue:
Does that error occur on all original dvds,or just a select few?
Name some of them that you can't backup.
Sounds to me like it's encryption related.DVD Shrink can't handle some of those newer releases. You can run a background program called AnyDVD to help DVD Shrink rip through it.
Now that I think of it, the 2 recent ones were Wedding Crashers and The Lady and the Tramp gave me the errors but I just did Walk the Line on Friday with no problems. If I need it do I have to buy AnyDVD and also is there a newer version of DVD Shrink that might take care of this error ? Thanks
It hasn't been updated for over a year and a half and never will. It's still a very good ripper, but has trouble with those newer encryptions from sony and columbia. Here's a link that shows all the titles that DVD Shrink may not rip:
Some of those titles may say region 2 or 3,but most of them I had to use AnyDVD in the background and use DVD Shrink as usual. I'm region 1.
Other programs like VOB blanker and dvdfab decrypter may work on them.
I purchased AnyDVD and I don't regret it one bit. That's the only non free dvd program that I recommend.
You get a 21 day free trial. You get free updates for life, region free drives, and also pulls off cd encryptions.
Now on my dvd backups,I leave AnyDVD disabled until I get the CRC error or other error messages from DVD Shrink. After that,I enable it and usually have no trouble backing them up. If you have DVD43 on your pc,you may want to uninstall that program. AnyDVD and DVD43 are known to clash.
Both Wedding Crashers and Lady and the Tramp II have newer protection on them you will need the programs that Saugmon suggested to get through these movies.
Not that I ever have issues, but outta curiosity, Saugmon, how come you leave AnyDVD disabled and let the other programs work without it? Yes i know other programs can work without it but still, I'm kinda curious.
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie
Some peeps have trouble when they leave it on all the time. I like to leave it off, just to keep track of what new releases that DVD Shrink needs, and which ones shrink needs help on.Some members get the new releases a week or two early.
You see the usual threads with the new movies in them and saying something like:
"Dvd shrink and AnyDVD worked on weatherman and yours, mine, ours. Nothing special on those new releases"""" LOL
Well then I'll post back if it was necessary for AnyDVD to be turned on because a lot of members out there don't have that program. It's such a great program, that a lot of times you don't even realize it's on there-doing its job. Usually I'll wait till the day they are released and find out for myself.
