I don't know the actual version but if there is a new version it should ask you to update it everytime you start up DVDFAB. I don't really know what you mean by intergrate. But I always rip it with DVDFAB and then VOBB and then Shrink, however VOBB isn't completly neccesary. The biggest difference is gonna be that express costs money whereas the other doesn't. I don't think express is really neccesary since everything I get, I can get for free.

The purchase version of DVDFab includes a burn engine. The free versions does not.
I have used DVDFab to rip the dvd files to the hard drive and then used shrink to encode and compress those files, and then used either dvdDecrypter or imgburn to burn to the blank DVD. Works great together.

Do you only use DVDFAB when shrink doesnt work with the dvd without help???
because currently thats the only reason i would think of to incorporate DVDFAB...........is when dvd shirnk cant do a certain dvd

Don't want to bud in, but I use DVD Fab with most of the newer movies that are coming out because of the newer encryptions. However, if I have an older released DVD, I use DVD Decrypter. I refuse to throw away!!
I use DVD Decrypter/DVD Fab first, VOB Blanker second, Nero Recode 2 last. I personally feel this is the best way for backing up DVD's. I never haveany problems unless I forget to shut down back ground tasks, argh!!!

DVDFab Decrypter is up to 2.9.7.2 - http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm
I always use DVD Shrink first and foremost, if it fails i go straight for DVDFab Decrypter, then use DVD Shrink on the resulting folder, 100% success every time. and i still keep DVD Decrypter around for backing up damaged backups

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new at this and have been reading and learning with great interest, but i am having trouble with some of the latest movies i am trying to copy.
i am using fab express to decrypt, then vob to process then the latest version of shrink. Shrink tells me that the size is ok (as in under 4.5) but when i come to burn, using nero it shows over the 4.5 gb mark and refuses to burn.
what am i missing?

I did a re-author mode thingy in shrink..I managed to get it onto a 4.7 disc, but had to sacrifice menus amd such. I don't know if this was the best way to do it!

Make sure your target size in Shirnk isn't set too high. What movie are you trying to back up?

I am trying to back up Revolver and Zorro 2. Had the same problem with both of them. Compression in shrink was set to maximum compression. With revolver, shrink even showed it as well below the 4.7 mark, but when i came to burn it with nero, nero showed it to be over 4.7 slightly and wouldn't burn. So I re-authored and just managed to get the film only. This is all after I decrypted using fab express as shrink or dvd decrypter wouldnt touch the films.

DVDFab takes the place of the defunct DVD Decrypter...everybody knows that already.
Just get it download it and start ripping those encrypted DVDs.
MOvies I ripped on a weekend
TRANSPORTER 2
MINE YOURS OURS
THE MAN
WEDDIND CRASHERS
MEMORY OF A KILLER
DIARY OF A MAD BLACK WOMAN
STONE COLD
TWIN DRAGONS
LORD OF WAR
TODAY YOU DIE
steps are easy to follow.
after decrypting use DVD Shrink and let it rip.

Why R U using Nero?
First you have to DECRYPT the original DVD
Use DVDFab fot that
Next use DVD Shrink
Make sure setting is set to ISO
You have to transfer the file to your HD
From your HD you transfer to a DVD.
It's very very simple.
In case youreally want to play and take segments from the movie you will ned:
Mini DV Camcorder
Tranfer the file from your HD to the MiniDV
Transfer it back to your HD
Use a program such as Ulead Video studio 9
Edit the segments that you want and make your own movies
Any questions?

Thanks for teleporting to correct forum ? thought I was in the right one since I am a newbie.
I guess I was not clear enough about my steps in attempting to backup "Crash".
dvd43 & AnyDVD had never been downloaded to my system at first attempts
first - tried dvdfab decrypter, the free version (in original post I called this dvdfab express as that?s what it says when I open it up- but it is the free version 2.9.7.2)to copy to hard drive and then use shrink. Copies to HD with dvdfab successfully but when using shrink received "failed to read file VTS_01_5" error message
second - tried Alkohol's guide which includes the use of vobblanker as this had worked for other movies which had stumped dvdfab & shrink (Flightplan, Madascar, etc). received error message: "DVD Shrink has encountered an error & cannot continue - Programming error - exception occurred." (this happened at 60% analysing). Hit the Analysis icon on Shrink and it starts back up only to stop again with the following error message: "DVD Shrink has encountered an error & cannot continue. Failed to read file:c:\DVD Rip Folder\Crash\DVD\Video_TS\VTS_01_5.VOB Invalid access to memory location"
third - downloaded trial version of AnyDVD and tried with this ? no success ? turned off anydvd
If it weren?t for the fact that I get the exact same file error on White Noise, I would think that I have a bad press of my original of "Crash".
If others have successfully copied ?Crash? or ?White Noise?, I would appreciate your sharing the programs and steps you used.

let me get this right you can use dvdshrink just to shrink the movie and then Nero? i thought you had to shrink and burn with DVD Shrink.i might be doing something wrong than myself. i have done about 20 movies now half with dvdshrink and the rest with AnyDVD and CloneDVD. i would use dvdfab decrypter first than dvdshrink. didnt know you could use Nero to burn after you shrink. can someone clue me in on how to?

Thanks beltline for your reply. But my point is, I have tried these methods and none are working for these two movies for me. I have successfully used either DVD Decrypter, DVDFAB Decrypter, Vobblanker and/or Shrink on many, many movies using the guides you recommended. Most recently, Alkohol's method that includes the use of vobblanker, has been successful with some of the newer releases. I have also found ScubaPete's advise invaluable in the past. However, none of these methods have worked for me on "White Noise" & "Crash."

My bad trilight, I was actually replying to cincyrob.
For your problem, I'm not sure. I don't believe White Noise or Crash had anything special?
You may want to uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot. Sounds like your software may be corrupt somewhere. The other thing I know a lot of people suggest is to defrag often. But let's assume you've done all that and you don't have anything else running (ie: antivirus, spyware, etc) and you are not multitasking while burning?
Let's try to figure White Noise out first.
Use DvdDecryptor (not fabdecryptor) and rip in File Mode to your computer. Than use Shrink to open file and compress.
*** Edit - Nevermind I seee you tried that? ****
Okay, do you have Nero Recode 2? That will at least produce a Nero log if it fails?
Try that first. That is the standard practice by quite a few. Let me know how that works out.

Quote: @peteh - For Zorro I would try alkohol's guide:

I believe that one may have need assistance from VOB blanker.
Thank you Beltline, The example was great. But I did put this film through VOB blanker. And I still got the oversized error. I did not know what to take out manually through VOB blanker so I just chose to 'process'. I understand I may have missed something.

the rare times i use vobblanker, that's all i ever do, it can get far, far too complex to mess with stuff like vobblanker, luckily all i've ever had to do (apart from one movie once) is just hit process!
