I can attest to the effectiveness of AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. These two programs are able to process anything that I try to feed them. I did use shrink and imgburn last night on Das Boot. It was a dual sided disc that I needed to reauthor to 1 DVD5. Worked great. Booktyped DVD-ROM and came out with a quality score of 97.5 on Verbatim 8x DVD+R.

beltline, I do not have Nero Recode 2. This may be something I should check into getting so as to have a log to check. Anyway, you did provide an important reminder to defrag - something I have not done in a while. I will give this a try and see if it makes a difference. Sometimes I forget the simple things! I'll post again if the problem continues. Thanks for your input!!

@trilight - have you tried movie only? That's something I normally try if I'm having problems with a disc, and if I recall Crash is a huge movie file only. Also, try Nero 30 day trial. You get all the features like the bought version I believe. Nero Recode 2 is similiar to shrink but faster. Also you have been doing a lot of installing and uninstalling. Be sure to reboot after each.
Keep us posted.
@peteh
In DVD Shrink, what is your target size set to? This oversized error is coming when you are trying to do the actual burn right?
@cincyrob
I'm not sure what the actual question is, but I think you are saying that in shrink it is saying your movie is getting compressed down to 55-65%? If so, that is the norm for newer movies. You can do several things to help get the percentage up:
1. Get rid of foreign languages, subtitles, not needed audio, etc.
2. Reauthor and do Movie only.
3. Get rid of some or all extra's.
There are numerous ways for every movie. It's really user preference and the finished result.
If I'm missing the actual question please repost.

With reauthor you can do movie only. You do lose menus, but it will help with high compressed discs. Here is a guide:
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/BACKUP%20WITH%20SHRINK.pdf
Now if you want some of the extras you can just preview the extras and still image the one's you don't want. This will keep the menus intact and help out on compression also. The is done in regular mode not reauthor.

Beltline....... @peteh
In DVD Shrink, what is your target size set to? This oversized error is coming when you are trying to do the actual burn right?
The target size is default. 4.7gb/4464mb..The strange thing is that with Revolver shrink showed it all as green, well under 4.7. only when I went to burn with Nero did it show above 4.7 Zorro showed red in shrink but i didnt know about the re author thingy at this time. I only sussed that out with revolver and by this time I had to give Zorro back ;-)...I hope I'm making sense here!

@peteh - 4464 is only good when you are using high quality media. I only burn that high when using TY's or Verb's. Otherwise you want to be sure the setting is set below 4400. You can gradually move it up as you test your media, but burning too far to the edge will lead to skipping and freezing at the end of a movie on cheaper media.
Also I always use dvddecryptor or dvdfab decryptor to burn in file mode to my hard drive, than proceed with either VOB blanker, shrink, dvdrb, or Nero recode2 to compress. It will be easier on your burner since it is using the hard drvie while compressing (the longest step in backing up a movie). It will also solve your other problem ;)
Now make sure you remove all unneeded audio, subtitles, etc. This should always bring your target size down enough so you don't see the red line in shrink. Zorro is a very large movie so you probably do need to do movie only or blank out some extras. I don't own Revolver so I can help on that one.

I did Zorro 2 just the other weekend.
1. when you try to open the dvd with Shrink, anytime you get the error message- Invalad Navigation Structure...guess what..You've just came face to face with Sony New encrypton...time for DvdFab!
2. Copy DVD to Video Storage Device..preferably a NTSC format at 7000 rpm using DVDFab.
3. Open the above folders with Shrink, Anyalsis just like you would have done the DVD..now with compression set at Automatic...de-select the foreign audio streams like French, Spanish, Portugeses and the corsponding Sub-Pictures..now Back-up again to seperate folder other than the 1st one..Now you are ready to Burn with Burner of choice and it will fit a DVD-5. Note: don't remove Menus.

Without any doubt DVDFab and DVDShrink are the best at this time.
Smooth as a baby's bottom.
Decrypted all the DVDs I selected without failure.
SOMEBODY, SOMEWHERE, SOMEHOW dis a very good job writing this program.
Invest the money, you won't regret it.

@peteh - so you got things worked out? If you did great!
@n0v0n - there is no money to invest. Fab and Shrink are both free. I do highly suggest both and agree they are easily the best freeware out there.
SOAPBOX
If you like Fab, throw the author a little donation. $1, $5, $10, anything is appreciated I'm sure. If you have 4 programs you use quite often and you send $5 to each author. You're out $20 for all programs. Yeah, you could use them for free for as long as you want but these little donations coming from here and there help keep these people striving for perfection.
Now you can no longer donate to DvdDecryptor, but if you like it there is another program you can donate to that would accomplish the same thing (mods you can erase this if this is against forum rules).
As to DvdShrink, don't make any donations to this program because I don't know that it is truly going to the author. I know a lot of phony sites jumped up and started asking for donations last year with the shrink name. So be weary of donating money to shrink, especially since I believe the author (Mr Bass) went to work for Nero. If I knew the money was going to him, I would donate in a heart beat.

You have remember that there are DVDFab Express, DVDFab Platinum and there is a charge for the download.
I normally buy the full versions of the programs I think that do the job for me.
Yes, I also send donations to whom I think deserves it.

I know there are the pay programs, but I am always refereing to DvdFab Decryptor (free) when explaining my steps. I should be more clear on that. I've never used any of the pay programs and am not sure what they could help improve over what I am using now. I read through some of the descriptions yesterday and could see purchasing them over a lot of other programs, but can't see myself purchasing them with what I have already. I also went to try and donate to them yesterday, but they don't seem to have a donate link, only a purchase link :( ?

I believe that the paid versions offer more than the free ones.
Maybe I wrong, but let just say that by paying I am "donating" to the cause.
That is personal or maybe I am a fool.
However I always like to reward for a job well done.
