Hi all. I just built a new rig with an Opteron dualcore. I can assign shrink to only run on one core so I can still use my computer while it does it's thing. Has anyone had a problem doing this?

Its always best to leave the computer ALONE when transcoding/encoding, under any circumstances.

Since you have a SWEET setup you should go for optimum quality,
and use an encoder instead of DVD shrink (Transcoder only).

DVD-RB (DVD rebuilder) with the CCE plugin (Cinema craft encoder),
Is the best DVD authoring tool in terms of quality,
It puts all other trancoders/encoders to shame.

Most 1 click tools are compressed domain transcoders. What this means in English is that they simply remove enough information from the video on a DVD to make it small enough to fit on a blank disc. Instead of using that approach, DVD-RB re-encodes the video from scratch. The advantage to this approach is that a good MPEG encoder will do a better job of distributing the bitrate, both between frames and between different pixels in the same frame, in a way that maintains as much quality as possible from the original.

You can download an installer for DVD-RB Free here:

If quality is what your after this is the way to go,
But always leave the computer alone, one 'hiccup' could,
ruin a good movie and waste time and money.

Cheers!
