I have used DVD Shrink many times, yesterday, after encoding, the burning process would not begin. Encoding would complete, and the message would come up stating bakup is done, files are ready to burn, instead of the request to put in a blank DVD to begin burin. I can't seem to get beyond encoding, even if I use DVD Decrypter 1st. Ideas?

Have you tried creating an ISO with DVD Shrink and burn that image with DVD Decrypter?

Like LOCOENG says, make an ISO and burn with DVD Decrypter or if you have Nero, open Nero Burning Rom and burn the files already saved on your computer. From your post, it makes me believe that you were under the impression that DVD Shrink burns by itself. It dosn't. You can set it up to automatically start DVDDecrypter and burn, or start Nero. That you do in the burn settings. After you hit "Backup", you will have a choice of choosing the backup target.
You can make and ISO and save it to your HDD and later burn with your software of choice(including DVD Decrypter). You can also save the files in a folder, and later burn with something like Nero. Or, you can automatically enable burn with Nero or DVD Decrypter.
If it says
Quote:
Encoding would complete, and the message would come up stating bakup is done, files are ready to burn
, most likely you saved in a HDD folder, the last option.

I just had the same problem. I used Shrink many times on my eMachine, using an external HP 740e, and burned many DVDs simply by clicking Backup in Shrink then Shrink & Nero worked together and without another word, voila, the burner offered a burned DVD about 40 minutes later. I was a happy camper. But then I tried burning a copy of a copy. Since then, Shrink says files are ready for burning with appropriate software....30 copies later...does it have anything to do with trying to burn from a copy instead of an original? Or was that a coincidence? Shrink acts like it doesn't recognize Nero anymore. I reinstallled Shrink and Nero and still, no burned DVD. I powered down the burner and disconnected the USB and my computer Device Manager displays 740e with no problem. When I open Nero to burn existing compiles it acts like it doesn't see the burner. I installed the latest version of Nero - no use.

What version of Nero do you have? If it is 6.6.1.4, that will not burn with Shrink, it has some bugs. It doesn't seem that you have it though, as you would get an error message.
Chack an see that you have enabled" burn with Nero" in Shrink settings.

Thanks LOCOENG and cyprusrom for the advise. This turned out to be a user error. Somehow my settings were changed and I was backing up the DVD to my HDD. If I try as you stated, to make an ISO with DVD Shrink, will the file burn to DVD with DVD Decrypter? I haven't tried that method. I may be making extra steps for myself. I do the backup with DVD Shrink, analyze, encode and then burn with Nero (I have version 7). Sometimes when I have an issue with a particular DVD, I will create the ISO with DVD Decrypter, and then analyze with DVD Shrink and burn with Nero. My settings have Nero open when backup is done.

I did a system restore (burning with Shrink & Nero worked great with only a click of Backup and it took over and spit the DVD out when finished - not anymore, for some unknown reason) and took my computer back two weeks and now Shrink works - but - I get an error (apparently incompatible version of Nero) and I have to open Nero now and manually do a burn, which is better than NO burn...so I'm back in business, but I need to download a compatible version of Nero and get my burn method back to clicking Shrink and letting Shrink and Nero work together transparently. "Enable Nero to burn) is enabled in Shrink.

Start over with it, completely remove it from you system using the general cleantool found here:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/General_CleanTool.html

Once the uninstall is complete, install the latest version 7.0.8.2 found here and re-enter your serila# (without the tool bar):
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/nero7-up.php#opt2

Make sure you have the burn with nero option checked in shrink's preferences, when backing up with shrink make sure to select to burn with nero there, and in the last tab (burn settings) set the burn/write speed to 4X.

It doesn't look like you had a problem with Nero, just a user setting error, right?
My suggestion for you:
Download DVDFab Decrypter from DVDIdle.com( to use instead of DVDDecrypter), as DVDFab is more up to date with decryption. Then instead of DVD Shrink, use Nero Recode( it is twice faster than DVD Shrink). After you process/shrink the files with Recode, burn with Nero(you can set up to automatically start the burn after conversion with Recode, I like to save to HDD and then open Nero Burning Rom and burn, always successfull).
As for your Q regarding DVDDecrypter/Shrink/ISO, you can rip the files onto your HDD and save to a folder, to later open with Shrink, or you can rip to an ISO and open with Shrink. If you choose to use DVD Srink to re-encode, you can make a new folder and burn with Nero, or you can make a new ISO, and burn with DVDDecrypter.

It may be with your process. If your are trying to burn a "compilation", then it has to be something "saved" to your Hard Drive. Not something that was temporarily saved. Nero, DVDD, DVD Shrink and other programs remember past operations. Whether the source files exist or not. Temporary files do not last forever. At some point they are eliminated. Whether by Windows or a third party program.

The data on your back-up discs should be fine to copy from. They are region free, encryption free and ready to copy from. Just make sure you have used quality media from start to finish.

I would recommend not deleting a permanent file on you HD until you have ensured the disc's play on everything.

I've never done it, but book typing is sounding better every day.

Since I messed up the compatible version of Nero (somehow) I have been burning movies with mostly no problem except, Shrink can't tell Nero to burn, so it's a manual Nero burn after Shinking...so I do need to get the right version of Nero for it to work with Shrink.

New problem is that I can't burn Jodie Foster's movie, Flight Plan...it says CRC problem. What can be done about CRC problems? I tired two different Foster movies, same problem...so it's programmed that way, for some reason. I can't figure out how to use Idle yet...

I burned Jodie Foster's movie, Flight Plan just fine. the CRC usually means a bad DVD, or dirty. when I get this, besides assuring the DVD is clean and not scratched, I use DVD Decrypter to do the encoding, then I use DVD Shrink to let Nero burn it. Try that.

My Nero version...I don't remember, but I did check and it's not supposedly the one that is not compatible...but obviously, it is not compatible since I have to manually burn now - when I first started burning movies, Shrink and Nero worked together automatically.

I haven't used Decryptor yet in conjunction with Shrink...I'll try it....but what about Idle? I have NO IDEA what to click on to use IDLE...I'm lost with Idle...and it's supposedly better than Shrink to use...

Yeah!! I found the 6.6.0.18 Version of Nero and did a successful, automatic burn using DVDShrink and Nero.

I still can't burn Jodie Foster's Flight Plan...

One person advised that if I got a CRC check error it meant the DVD was damaged...I tried 5 Jodie Foster DVDs...CRC check error with all of them...

...at the Video store we looked at 30 Zorro DVDs before finding one that wasn't scratched! I couldn't burn Zorro - the legend...the extra stuff - making the movie - apparently interferred with Shrink's ability to shrink.

...I deleted DVDIdle because it took over when I tried using DVDShrink...(maybe that's how it supposed to work, I don't know)

I wanted to use DVDIdle after reading how much it saves the burner from overworking, but I never could figure out how to use it...it's probably easy, but...I'm a newbie...

I have had that CRC error with Disney movies lately (new releases). Using DVD Decrypter solves the promlem. You should try it. You can get instructions on this site.

I also tried DVDDecryptor, couldn't figure it out either...but, again, I'm a newbie...I'm thrilled that I have performed successful burns using Shrink & Nero...

Michmo, if you're trying Shrink along with Nero, your Nero version probably is wrong, or you haven't set the option in Shrink to enable Nero to Burn...I had the same problem, Shrink worked, but I had to manually find the files with/for Nero (wrong version) and tell Nero to burn...and that worked. But, Shrink used with Nero 6.6.0.18 works great, automatically.

I'm all set with Burning - it was a user error. Somehow I had made a change in the settings on DVD Shrink. Back in business now. Thanks for the suggestions.
