I was wondering if any one can help or had seen this problem as well.
I tried burning Chicken Little with DVDFAB Platinum. After burning it on to my computer and trying to run Shrink i get an error message talking about Visual C++ Runtime Library: abnormal program termination.
I was wondering if anyone had seen this or can give me some advice on how to work around this. Also, i have a friend thats uses Shrink as well but now everytime he tries to use the program it freezes up his computer completely. Any advice on this one as well would be very appreciated.

Do you have any McAfee products installed on you PC?, some mcafee products have been known to cause this.

The other possibility is that you could have a corrupt .dll file, you can correct this by downloading and installing visual c++ files. The link will provide you with all you need, take the time and read alittle first.

download the file from the direct download link.

double click on it to extract the install file to a location of your choice

double click on the extracted file to run it (the files will be installed quickly)

reboot.

John..I tried your links and when i tried to extract the file it didnt do anything. I even tried extracting (even though nothing happened) and rebooting my computer and i still had problems trying to burn the DVD. Is there anything else you can think of or an easier way of doing this?

Are you still getting the Visual C++ Runtime Library error when you run shrink, can you tell me at what part of the process does this happen?

It looks like the files are already on you HDD according to you above statements, so...

Are you getting this error simply by opening/starting shrink or after shrink is up and running and you click backup?

I'm having the exact problem described in this thread. After using DVD Fab Decrypter and saving the files in a folder called "DVD", I start DVD Shrink and try to open the "DVD" folder. I immediately get the C++ runtime error. I've been able to back up other dvds without a problem.

Haven't seen this error until now......

The problem is that DVDFab didn't completely remove all the crap put on the DVD to prevent copying it (files structure may also be incorrect), so shrink spits out and error when trying to open/backup the files.

To correct this you'll need Vobblanker to remove the problem cells and correct file structure.

Get vovblanker here:
http://members.aol.com/posunplugged/jsoto/VobBlanker_2100_exe.zip

On your HDD you should have a VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab decrypter/express, run vobblanker and....choose....

For input file, browse to the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab and choose it.

For output location just choose a folder to store the files vobblanker will create. I create a folder on my desktop and give it the name of the movie, I then create another folder within that one and name it VIDEO_TS (this is the folder you will direct vobblanker to store the files in).

example: c:\desktop\Chicken_Little\VIDEO_TS

Once all the selections have been made, press the process button and wait unitl it's done.

When it's done open the new video files created by Vobblanker with DVD Shrink and proceed as you normally would.

I suggest you re-author the DVD to backup just the main movie (angle 1) and 5.1 AC3 english audio channel, then burn with your favorite application.

Johnl123, I followed you instructions and ran VobBlanker against the files created by DVDFab decrypter. It completed with no errors. I started DVD Shrink and pointed him at the folder containing the files, which I callded desktop\Chicken Little\Video_TS. I got the following error message from DVD Shrink.

"DVD Shrink encountered and error and cannot continue".

"Failed to open file "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\Chicken Little\Video_TS\VTS_03_0.IFO".

"System cannot find specified file".

Indeed, when I look in the folder I see a "VTS_**_0.IFO" file with every number except "03".

Could something have gone wrong with VobBlanker even though no error was reported? Thanks.

I just re-ran VobBlanker and I notice that I get this message:

"There are at least one multiangle(unsupported cell). The VTS containing these cells have been marked as skip". I see in the list at 03 is marked skip. Is there a way around this? Thanks.

This flick is proving to be a pain. I did it using anydvd with clonedvd2 from slysoft, and had no problems.

lets try processing the files created by vobblanker thru a little app called ifoedit, you can get it here:

http://www.ifoedit.com/

ifoedit should correct the file structure problem. Run the app and choose "open" in the lower left of the window and browse to the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the video_ts folder created by vobblanker and choose the file, then just click on the "Get VTS sectors" button at the bottom and let ifoedit do its thing (click ok to any prompts). Ifoedit makes corrections without creating new files, if an error occurs just ok thru it and when finished shutdown ifoedit, then run it again using the same procedure.

Once the files have been processed thru ifoedit, try using DVDshrink to open the file again and see what happens.

I did as suggested and get the same error. Apparently the missing VTS_03_.IFO file is the problem because it was "skipped" by DVD Fab Decrypter.

Ok, this is what should be done for Error message for vts_03_*.VOB:

Run vobblanker and load your VIDEO_TS.IFO file
At the top half of the window, click on the VTS_03_*.VOB file
Now in the lower half you should see three PGC title sets for VTS_03_*.VOB

PGC#
01 Entry
02 Entry
03 Entry (not sure if this one is there or not)

The top entry represents your movie, the other two need to be blanked
highlight 02 Entry and click on the blank button on the right
highlight 03 Entry(if there) and click on the blank button on the right
select your output folder
press process and wait for it to finish
open the files with shrink and you should be ok now

This seems to be on the right track. However, when I highlight either PGC02 or PGC 03 the "blank" button on the right is not active. I don't know how to remove them.

Single clicking on those PGC title set entries shound cause them to be highlighted and then make the blank button on the right visible.

I recommend starting over again with DVDFab decrypter, then process the files thru vobblanker as shown to blankout the two entries, then open those files with shrink.

VTS_03_*.VOB represents the main movie and should not be skipped

On your HDD you should have a VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab decrypter, run vobblanker and....choose....

Input Video Manager (VIDEO_TS.IFO) selection:
Browse to the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab and choose it. Vobblanker will load the files and warm you that there are unsupported mulitangles in VTS_03_*.VOB and will be skipped, just ok it.

VTS_03_*.VOB represents the main movie and should not be skipped, in the upper half of the window click on to highlight VTS_03_*.VOB and then click the "process" button on the right to change the action from skip to process.

With VTS_03_*.VOB highlighted, look at the bottom half of the window, you should see:

PGC#
01 Entry
02 Entry
03 Entry

The top entry (01 Entry) represents your movie, the other two need to be blanked.

Click on and highlight 02 Entry and click on the blank button on the right
Click on and highlight 03 Entry and click on the blank button on the right

Output Folder selection:
For output location just choose a folder to store the files vobblanker will create. I create a folder on my desktop and give it the name of the movie, I then create another folder within that one and name it VIDEO_TS (this is the folder you will direct vobblanker to store the files in).

example: c:\desktop\Chicken_Little\VIDEO_TS

Once all the selections have been made, press the process button and wait unitl it's done.

When it's done open the new video files created by Vobblanker with DVD Shrink and proceed as you normally would.
