Just outta curiosity, was this the 2-disc edition or single?
Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

hey Rick6, Can you give me exact directions on how you burned Geisha. I did " A sound of Thunder" it backed up perfectly(FYI..one of the best sci-fi's I have seen in a LOng time) but Geish is a frickin nightmare.
I tried every program I have..and I have alot.
I finally used DVDFab express and it did everything ok, then I got it to open in shrink, but it was HUGE and I spent 3 hours trying to shrink it down, God its only 145 minutes long, I've done others way longer then that without a hitch.
I need to have a visual on how to do this. I'd really appreciate anyone who can help me....its the whole principal of backing this up. I will not be beaten! LOL!!

Just out of curiousity, if you are using Recode in Nero why did you use Shrink they are both the same program by the same developer and do the same thing, which is compress your DVD to fit a single layer.

Buffsrer , I placed Geisha in the reader drive and selected DVDfab from my desk top. I then pushed the start button. After that was finshed 10-15 min,I went to the desk top and pushed the VOblanker program. After that came up I went to the browse button at the top middle and found the rip I had made of Geisha under my documents and selected that. Next I went to the select destination part just under- neith and pushed browse again and chose (my desk top) then selected new folder after this I pushed the proceed buton. After 10-15 min VOblanker was finshed doing its thing and I then selected the DVD Shrink program. I pushed the file button in the top left corner and found the New file where the VOblanker info was stored. I clicked that on and pushed Ok. After shrink had analyzed the movie I selected re-author then main title.Since the movie would have had to be compressed to fit on one disc I then pushed the size button and proceeded to burn the first half of the movie to the disc , after that was finished I put in a new blank and did the other half. Hope this helps. Rick6

@arniebear, SHRINK DVD has it's own powerful decrypter that somehow makes the difference even over CloneDVD2 in my experience. Nero Recode2 I find hangs up with some encryptions or has trouble with layer breaks when used with just AnyDVD and the disc in question is loaded with encryptions like Arccos Puppetlock or Macrovision's RipGuard. SHRINK also creates it's own back up file that can easily be accessed through Nero and can be used for future back ups if needed. Most of all this combo of AnyDVD, SHRINK DVD, to Nero works.:P Try it out.

I have not had a problem with Recode I find it better than Shrink in that it is faster and less of a resource hog. As for putting the file on HDD so will Recode you just tell it to output to your HDD and you can burn it anytime. Shrink can only rip the new encryptions with AnyDVD so if you are going to use Recode it just saves time to use it for the whole process.

you've lost me, don't want to state the obvious but that's what Shrink's for; or do you mean after you select what you want in Shrink, that the compression ratio is too large ?. in which case just do movie only..

Hey creaky: I hate to even ask you this, because I'm thinking that after personally backing up hundreds of flicks and never having aproblem...that I have gone "mental" I have spent 3 days trying to back up Geisha. I'm not even sure I want this frickin movie, its the principal now..I have to do this.
Once I put it in DVDFABexspress And it does its thing, what do I do with it? I spent hours in dvdshrink, and I'm not sure what to do with it once I'm there. Can you just pretend I'm like 5 years old and take me thru the baby steps(LOL). Do I close out of DVDFAB then open up shrink(leave the dvd in the burner right?) then what? I think I have clicked everything available in dvdshrink and nothing works. Help me, before I go nutz..pleas.......e

Yes, I did GEISHA with AnyDVD+SHRINK 3.2+NERO Recode2. With no problem. I too use the latest greatest version of AnyDVD. The movie was good and well acted considering it depicts the lives of GEISHA woman within Japanese culture using asian actors. I guess the producers of this movie could have easily gone with Japanese dialogue and english subtitles etc.:P

Hey Buffster, once you're done with DVDfabdecrytor, open up shrink - then go to Open Files , then you're gonna browse for the VideoTS folder where all your files are stored (from DvdFav) Shrink is gonna analyse the folder and shrink the files for you to fit on a DVD, click on backup and you should be good to go.

Since you are using AnyDVD have yout tried the built in ripper that has been added to the program, that will fix the VTS files while ripping to your HDD. Then you can process them using Shrink, Recode or Clone.

How did you divide the movie up into halfs using Shrink? I have never heard of this. Will it still play in all dvd players? This would be great to maintain the quality no doubt. I am ripping as we speak with the new DVDFab Decrypter that came out today, but I am not sure how to divide into 2 disks using Shrink.
Thanks in advance,
~SCC
