Since DVD Shrink cannot be updated, there will be some movies that it cannot backup. I tried it on a Chinese movie 'Fearless' & met with a 'insufficent memory' error after 25 mins of encoding. It happened even when I backup on a DL.
Then I used CloneDVD & backup in a compressed version as well as in a DL without any problems.
It's a waste because Shrink is a very good & easy software to use esp the Reauthoring.
Hope it can be updated soon.

I sincerely doubt that Shrink will be updated, the developer went to work for Nero. If you want the updated ver of Shrink then use Nero Recode it is by this developer only faster. Shrink can still do what it is should, which is compress movies. As for ripping them no it cannot rip the newer encryption is needs AnyDVD or DVD43 behind it, or you need to rip to your HDD with DVDFab Decrypter which also does the new encryptions and is free.

Shrink is not a good program to backup DL's you really should not use it.

How much free space on your hard drive do you have left? You will need about 10 gig (a little less)

I have more than 30Gb of unfragmented HDD space & I had backup a number of movies with Shrink & AnyDVD using DL. Unlike Shrink which is very user friendly, using Recode must do with both eyes open.
I ever backup a Korean language DVD with no option for other languages - only subtitles using Recode 2. After the DVD is completed, I played on my player & you know what - there was no audio at all - only subtitles. I ran through the whole process again with Recode & found the Korean audio language was not checked at all. Later on I realise that Recode will only checked the English audio language & not other languages. After that I make it a point to check everything carefully before encoding.
This doesn't happen with Shrink & CloneDVD.

I recently downloaded a Shrink 3.2. Is this a legit update. I am aware that the developer went to Nero a couple of years ago. did someone find a way to improve or is it something I should leave alone? I haven't installed it. I have been very happy with my shrink and decrypter I installed a few years ago.

Thanks

Actually, many movies can still be copied, we just have to use different means to make them.

Use DVD Decrypter with PGCedit to decrypt the movies, including those with ARCOS, and then encrypt them with DVDShrink.

Yes, you need about 10gigs per movie, but if you have no space to make them, then you can usually just buy them from your local video store and pay $5 for them. When they come down in price. Also check ebay and a pawn shop. Making copies isn't everything in life.
