I have a LITE-ON DVD RW SHW-160 P6S, what would be the best media to use on it???

You may want to give the plus format a shot. Lite-on drives have the bit-setting capability to booktype the plus format to dvd-rom. It really helps out for stand alone player compatability.You just need to download their utility and set it up to booktype the plus to dvd-rom.
If anyone has a booktyping capable dvd-rw drive: Definitely the plus format. Plextor/Benq/Lite-on/LG/Ricoh/and a few others.
Try the japanese + format sony or verbatim at those stores that thelox714 linked you to.

sony or fugiflim made in jpan but you hve to make sure they are made in jpan you can get DVD+R or DVD-R it does not mater

I would highly suggest, verbatim +r, or TY's. Both are very high quality and last a life time, stay away from cheap media. If you look at the others posts here you will see what I am talking about. Be careful of the sony made in japan ones because even though they say that, it doesnt mean that they are ty media. Many have been fooled on that before including me. They don't code out to be ty, but sony. which is ok too.

if you buy the + format on those sony's.. they will code out to the ty.. the(-) ones will not always code out to that.
the thing now is the sony + format coming in with the octagonal spacer gives you a much better chance of getting ty..
i coded them out.. and sure enough... TY..

Cisnet: Here's a link that may come in valuable some day. You'll find the utility that allows lite-on DVD-RW drives to booktype in that link. Keep it bookmarked into your favorites:

If you run into trouble with the plus format media,lite-on drives can booktype the plus format to dvd-rom. Usually it'll be when you play your backups on other drives like stand alone players/game consoles/and other pc drives. If any of those drives give you a no disc inserted error,booktyping them to dvd-rom may do the trick.
It actually gives you 3 different formats to choose,whichever you stand alone players will recognize. Only with the plus format,and booktyping capable drives.
Office Depot and Bestbuy have sony on sale this week. Office Max has Verbatim. All for $15 for spindle of 50. The japanese sony and the verbatim are top notch stuff. Watch out in case bestbuy has the +16x sony. From some I have gotten,these were not taiyo yuden media.

I have noticed that there has been a DVD+R favor... Why? I have read that the tech. is supposed to be better in the DVD+R, but how, why, are they better. I used to buy nothing but DVD+R, but I have found lately I went back to Taiyo Yudens be cause they are cheaper and just do not see a differance.Why do you use the DVD+R?

for the simple reason of booktyping.. you can only booktype DVD+R which makes them to dvd-rom

sure wish imcould get some taiyo's here in the state would love to see the differance..... but i did just buy some verbs from office max.2 50pack 16x DVD+R $31.88 not bad for 100 disc.but they were MIT's cant find MIJ here in ohio.

the verbatims are always taiwan.. the dual layers are singapore
the only ones that are MIJ and will be taiyos will be the sony dvd+rs.

i know best buy has the sony's on sale this week.. 14.99 for the 50pack.. if you find the DVD+R.. made in japan.. those are the taiyos.. that would be the top quality dvd you can get (just MY opinion)
the verbs are still great dvds.. second ONLY to taiyos in my book.
i wouldnt mind having either one.
