If you are talking about copying(backup ;~)!) movies, then yes, you can do the ones you have. For that, you should download DVDFab Decrypter(a free application), rip the movie to your HDD, use DVD Shrink to shrink the resulting files to fit onto a SL DVD and then burn them. There are some very detailed and useful guides around.

If you are talking about downloading movies, there are some sites and different P2P software that will allow you to do that. Most of those downloaded movies are however in AVI/Divx or mpeg format, and you can watch them on your computer or you have to convert them to DVD format in order to burn them onto a DVD(unless you have a player that supports the specific format). You cannot use DVD Shrink to do that. You can find good guides on how to do that also.

content is copyrighted, and direct links to pirated materials is against forum rules. As for the software you can use. Some of the software used are Limewire, Bearshare and others for P2P ,and Azureus, BitComet and others for torrents. You can get more info in the proper forum,google it, or just using the search function:

If you want to convert the AVI files to DVD format,you can use Nero Vision, ConverXToDVD, Winavi...Most of them have a free trial period; there are plenty of guides in the Guides section. You should first read some of that and then if you have any problems, post back:

@schlag43
you're welcome:~)!
I remember I was excited first time I got my burner...But like a novice, I had no ideea about different quality media, so I bought a pack of Imations(made by CMC Mag). Of course I had more failures than successful burns. So I came at AD, I learned about different media, and went to Walmart at 3 AM to get some good Maxell MIJ. So, if you didn't get a chance to read some other forums- don't use poor quality media, like Memorex, Imation, Kypermedia, TDK...the list of bad media and shady names can be way too long...Instead buy some Verbatim(I think they are on sale at Office Max this weekend), Sony or Maxell(if you find them Made in Japan, would be preferable), Fuji made in Japan. If you buy on-line, go to Supermediastore and get some nice Taiyo Yuden! And don't pay more than 15-20$ for a spindle of 50 discs, there are always sales going on!

The problem with bad quality media is that although you might get a successful burn, and the movie will play, they don't last. The dye is poor quality and it will fade in no time.
From the spindle of Imations that I first bought, I managed to burn about 15. It's been about 4 months since then, give or take. I tried recently to transfer those on some good quality media. Some of them I could not copy again because of read errors, some I didn't even bother, as they would not play anymore, or it would just skip and freeze when tried to play them. Some the sound was screwed up. And all of them played with no problem after I burned them.

If you keep on using the media you have now, this is what you can expect. If you have an Office Max close to you, take a ride and get a 25 pack of Verbatims for about 7-8 bucks!
Since you say your burner is new, your burner's firmware might be new. Is not always the case, so you want to make sure of that, so your burner will be compatible and recognize the newer media codes.
