As they say, somebody was pulling your leg. Narnia and King Kong are the 2 easiest releases to backup that I've seen in a while; hardly any copyright protection at all. You know it's easy when the outdated DVD Shrink decryption software handles the rip on King Kong. Bambi II is loaded with copyright protection, but look where it came from (Disney). I got that one for the kids. If a person doesn't have their software updated, that one could be a pain.

I must have missed something...How do you get 2 disc's when you use Any DVD and Shrink to burn a movie. Maybe I'm just slow, but would like to know how if it can be done. Tks

It's a matter of editing. You save what you want on one disc and then save the rest to the second. That's the Reauthor segment of Shrink. I never do it. AnyDVD is just for bypassing encryption and copyright protection. I've used a split disc option with XCopy once just to see how it works. I've never felt the need again. Movie only usually solves the compression problem unless you're recording "Gone With The Wind" or "Lawrence of Arabia".

i thought i'd share my experince, i had AnyDVD 5.7.2.1 and clonedvd2 2.8.5.1 and all my dvds in the past have backed up fine including narnia but fun with dick and jane didnt.:( but i fianly got the new AnyDVD 5.9.5.3 and it worked! same with clonedvd2 2.8.9.2 i belive... and i also saw another update yesterday and i reupdated :D... keep it up slysoft and all those ppl that have/had problems i really think AnyDVD for $29.50 and clnoedvd2 $29.50 pays off no matter what .

i have heard of all those other apps but i never tried them as AnyDVD and clonedvd2 did them fine. what i like is to do a backup with everything all menus etc etc. on to a single layer disc and retain good quality to the eye . and my dvds read from disc on clonedvd2 about in 20-30 mins then temp dumps it to hd then burn it in 8 mins on an 8x . .... on dvds thtat i dont need to conpress its less then 15 mins. if anyone thinks theirs a better app or a good one to try that is better then AnyDVD somehow then please suggest so ....

I know this is probably a long way around but I had no problem with King Kong using Shrink however, Narnia was a problem so I just watched it and captured it with Pinnacle, and burned the video from there - no problems.

I know this might sound silly, but I found this way by accident. I wanted to digitize my home movies from VHS tapes, so I bought the cables to run from my vcr/dvd player to my computer (cables not cheap) so I could capture it with Pinnacle on my PC, and one day, a DVD wouldn't copy so I figured if I could do it with a VHS tape I could do it with a DVD - works great!!

Hi brobear, wierd story, yesterday I tried to copy my Fun with Dick & Jane, as usuall I always try my dvdxplat. from xcopy and AnyDVD first, it didnt take, I tried both ways, using the 2 disc way and the compression way, I also tried videovault that came with xcopy and AnyDVD, it mainly takes out all the extra crap, even more so than dvdxplat compression way, that didnt take either, I think here we go again with that sony jargin again, I tought let me give that old trusty dvdxcopy from 321 a shot, whenever it says you have a choice of splitting it on 2 disc's or if you want it can fit on one, I'm usualy leary cause most of the time it doesnt work all the time that way, but this time it did, meaning without compression it did fit on one disk it just took out the extra features, GO FIGURE. that old dvdxcopy still suprises me, to this day I'm still sorry that they were put out of bussiness.

I did Fun with D&J using Xcopy Platinum with AnyDVD behind it in simple mode, and the movie came out fine.

@FredBurn

I still use DVD Xpress Copy with AnyDVD once in a while to see if it still works. It does. Has to be the all-time easiest DVD back up. Quality wise I don't think so. Do you use the proggy 321Gone to remove the annoying FBI stuff and the Watermark, Xpress puts on the DVD.

Watching a minute or 2 of fbi crap etc. from having to use all those complicated configurations on so many of those programs you bet it wont bother me to watch it, besides I just go to the fridge and pull out a brewski.

I have been using DVD Remake to redo all my old 321 backups, so I can edit out the nag screen and not have to re-encode with another program. So far it has been working out well. Just rerip to HDD blank out the 321 and warnings, remake it and burn. No more nag. They needed redoing anyway, some of them were on bad media. Vobblanker will do the same thing.

No you can use the free VobBlanker, just put your disk in your drive it is already unprotected and the right size. Open VobBlanker and browse to your disk in the drive choose then choose an output directory, make sure you add a sub folder of VIDEO_TS it makes things easier. You will see the 321 screen in the preview, choose skip and then process. It will be gone. I know what you mean about the pause my one player can't get past it.

arniebear I wish I was capable of doing thse kinds of things but I'm not, thanks for the info anyway I highly appeciate it, as for gus, sorry to hear about your problems with 321, I must be lucky, I still watch movies I burned with them from 5 years ago when I first purchased it with no problem, of course I dont use 321 that often anymore because of the extra crap put on movies especially sony uses, but everyonce in a while it still does the trick even when all the others fail, e.g. fun with dick and jane, and again those extra warnings or copyied by 321 never bother me anyway, what does bother me is all those other programs out there that need so much work and figuring, no thank you, I avoid them like the plague, case in point, just read one of the gentlemens way of cracking it, you have to scroll down for 2 minutes to read, cant even imagine how long it would take to figure out, nope, I like the one click burn now method anyday. For computer dummies like me, its a Godsend.

So, for this one, a person can use only DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink, as long as it is ripped in the ISO R mode.
Brobear...

This worked just fine with Narnia for me...Thanks!

Normally Ricoh is among the "good stuff". Check the firmware and software settings and let us know if just switching to Verbs was the solution. Also include your burner model as sometimes problems can be specific to a single model of drive.
Actually, I upgraded my version of Nero (to 6.6.0.18), and after that it burned just fine with the Ricoh media.
BTW, my burner is a Pioneer DVR-110D, and the firmware is up to date.

Glad to see you didn't update to the 6.6.1.4. That one has been a problem for a lot of users. The reason I asked about the burner, some manufacturers release updates, even for the new drives. HP just updated the new 840i in March as well as the older 740i. I updated my new Plex shortly after installation. So, firmware version is one of those things that often get questioned as it addresses media supported and write strategies for the media.

Nero doesn't do the updates just for fun. Users should keep the software updated. With Nero though, it's a good idea to keep the installation files for the last stable version in case the new update causes problems. That's the situation with the 6.6.1.4. However, the newer version obviously solved the problem you had with the older one. That or your files were corrupted and the new install cured the problem. Either way, you should be using the version you chose. Good job. BTW, glad to see Ricoh is still among the "good stuff". ;)

Well, Narnia I had trouble with, but Kong backed right up on DVDShrink, with no decrypting programs needed.

You know it's easy when the outdated DVD Shrink decryption software handles the rip on King Kong.
As for Narnia, most of the decryption software that still has support will take care of the copyright protection.

The easy way is the AnyDVD Information Window, it lists the protection used on a DVD.
