Regarding the shoutboxes: methinks, when someone does that, they WANT a public display. Doing so in a PM is the last thing that would cross their minds.

just passing thru as i don't like to frequent (or even lurk on) these type of threads..(without labouring the point re my feelings on chat threads i and other regulars can often be found on IRC in #ad_buddies where i'm more than happy to chat away aimlessly for ages). I hear what people say about the shoutboxes being easily accessible and thus maybe offensive/not suitable but until some rules are drawn up for them let us mods worry about dealing with it as we see fit. I certainly don't actively spend time in shoutboxes (for chatting i prefer 'proper' contact as opposed to shoutboxes this ie i use IRC), so i rarely get offended by them. As i say, just report anything you don't like and we mods will maybe get the mops & buckets out until some rules are drawn up, until then it's best endeavours as there's enough crap and nonsense in Forum threads to attend to before worrying about shoutboxes..

creaky and all there is a little red flag in each post in the shout box's,i say click on it and use it..

Hi there Creaky, I have to agree with everything you said for the most part. Most of us on here also realize that there are not enough mods to police every section of this forum and the shout boxes too. With the extremely large number of members this forum has its just impossible. I personally don't use the shout box and unless someone links to one with a problem I never check other members boxes. As I mentioned before those that like to use them thats OK by me but I won't. As to the rules for them, yes something needs done, but that area is still part of the general forum. Therefore the main forum rules should apply to those areas also. I'm not trying to sound like I know more than the mods or admins and I sure don't have any control over this site, but if rules are in place for the main forum why would they NOT apply to the shout boxes. They are still accessed through Afterdawn.com. I'm not trying to start another debate just stating how several of us think. Keep up the good work.

I don't think there would be many people objecting to the personal pages being under the general rules set up for AD. The rules are fair and cover most activities on the forum. As for the ones who object, it could only be because they want to circumvent the rules. I think the rules should aplly to all aspects of AD as long as they're accessible by the public. That would make it very easy for the staff to set rules for the shoutboxes (let them be under existing rules).

I always assumed the rules of the forum...applied to the shout boxes...
I do not see any reason that there should be different rules for each...or No Rules for one...

I rarely go to the safety valve section so 99% of you guys do not know me I have been here since 25 October 2005 but I do not class myself as an "old timer", but thought I would drop in and say hi.
