Quote: Cajun music, an emblematic music of Louisiana, is rooted in the ballads of the French-speaking Catholics of Canada. Cajun music is often mentioned in tandem with the Creole-based, Cajun-influenced Zydeco form, both of Acadiana origin. These French Louisiana sounds have influenced American popular music for many decades, especially country music, and have influenced pop culture through mass media, such as television commercials.

Living in downtown Philly, I don't own a car and simply rent one when I need one. I sure don't miss the stress and mess of a long, daily drive to and from work. Years ago, I had a one hour drive each way and it really does get the best of you ...especially now when, I'm sure, the traffic is worse than when I did it.

Good Morning Everyone! And, compliments of your's truly, a large coffee for everyone:

It's going to be a strange morning. I've got a presentation to make to some Harrisburg big-shots in about a half hour. As fate would have it, I woke up very early in the morning because me neck was throbbing and hurt like hell so I went to the medicine cabinet and brought out the heavy artilery ...80mg oxycontin tabs and some oxycodone for the pass through pain. While the pain is now much better, I now find myself on another planet entirely and I've now got to do a presentation for some big-wigs. Fear not, however, there is something about oxycontin that makes me very "chatty" ... I may not make a whole lot of sense but I'll dazzle them with my bullsh** LOL! Wish me luck everyone!

@ddp...oh yes indeed! Hip waders are a must! In political/bureaucratic circles, its an art onto itself: a number of different bureaucracies are represented by their best liars all of whom sit and listen to the lying guest speaker who is, naturally, the best liar in his/her organization. The speaker lies, the representatives know you're lying, the speakers knows that they know. What it boils down to is a matter of form, i.e., how well you presented the lies. It really is an artform LOL!

@everyone....LMAO!! Ah, I just love you guys! Actually, this one was a lot of fun ... actually, they sent a bunch of Harrisburg Newbies and we simply ate them for breakfast LOL! (Harrisburg is the capital city of the state of Pennsylvania). Pennsylvania is mostly a conservative state and Philadelphia is the state's only big city ... so we are the states "pariah" ... the "sin city" and they HATE coming here because they see us to be every bit as jaded as the city's general population. So the Harrisburg people hate to come here and always send the lowest people on the totum pole; they come and treat us like social outcasts and, in turn, make their trip a self fulfilling phophesy and we eat them for lunch LOL! They see us as the big bad wolf so we have a good time playing the part with those pumpkin' patch bureaucrats LOL!

Gerry, you were made for New Orleans, and can bull$hit in French, what an advantage. Come on down! You'd own the town in months, if not weeks.

@Garmoon... Ah, the offspring of my fur trading ancestors LOL! In the service, I often hung around with this small clique of LA. Cajun boys ... we had a great time and they sure knew how to party! Given the centuries apart, the cajun dialect and the quebec dialect are worlds apart so we had to revert to speaking in proper french (some spoke proper french quite well, others, not so much lol). Oddly, we knew the same french songs, we both danced "Le Quadrille" heavy on the fiddle and squeeze box LOL! They've had centuries to acclimate though; I don't know that life on the bayou is my cup of tea ... with the humidity, that constant rotting smell and insects the size of volkswagons! I've been told that in certain parishes, given my last name and that I'm from quebec and speak french, I'd be treated like royalty and if my old friends were any indication, I believe it. Another similarity with the quebecois is that both are very ethnocentric...hard to break into their circles if you aren't one of them. I'll have to visit one of those parishes one of these days; I think I still have a list of the heavy french speaking ones somewhere.
