New case. I took the 3.4GHz Northwood I'd used to upgrade my old Dell and built a new PC. The Asus board and ATI Radeon graphics are new as well. I reused the good drives I'd updated the Dell with and put some less expensive ones in it. I went with the better Cas 2 memory with the new system and put the original Cas 3 in the DELL. Now I have a new system I can tweak the settings on and the DELL as a backup. I got a bad power supply, so the replacement is still in transit. I'm making do with a low output PSU (170W), which means I can't OC very much till I get the new PSU (550W). I'm running at about 5% OC at 3.57GHz. All that from is that a new case. LOL

@brobear,Not bad at all,I just bought a new case as well http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811195030 it should arrive on Thursday.I plan on transferring my AMD setup into it and putting the Dell(system #1 in sig.)into the raidmax case that the amd resides in now.Hopefully I can still use the Dell/Intel board at least till I can afford a new one for the Prescott.

@brobear...Beowulf and Julius Caesar in your sig; I'm impressed! I had to translate all of Julius Caesar and Cicero from the latin ... that sure did come in handy later in life LOL!

LOL "A fronte praecipitium a tergo lupi" sort of describes my position if I had to deal with any Latin nowadays. What little I could muster was lost in the past. "Ab asino lanam" covers my current abilities to translate Latin. ;)

The Grendel quote is from a more recent work written from the perspective of the earth-rim walker. It is a derivative of Beowulf.

Modern translations are "impossible" and "between a rock and a hard place" respectively. ;) I can't pull Latin up from memory, but thought those 2 quotes are applicable to my plight. LOL

Hi Brobear,
Hey you need to take that off your sig - the part about your rig being old, LoL!
Those Radeon X850 Pro were top o' the line, real big-$$ stuff with GDDR3 memory, excellent performance :^)
I bet it's great. Runs good?
Since we're aloud to ramble in here it seems, allow me to post an awesome site for:
Radeon Catalyst Control Center (using MS Net v/1.1) config & setup info
http://www.tweakguides.com/
...everything you ever wanted to know about the latest ATi burdens on your system.
I like this guy Koroush Ghazi, very bright guy, and all his advice is very good.
Trust me, I know (I hold many certifications) and this guy actually helped me, with some good info about the latest CCC/Net situation.
Good news! I got ~80MB of memory back after applying his suggestions. And his advice about the MS Net was spot-on too; my rig starts much faster now.

So this is the "bitch" forum?
why bitch? doesn't do no good. Status? who needs it. I'm a member (been called a memberhead a lot) 3+ years after joining. SO. this place is the best educational site I've found. A.D. people have fixed my computer over the web before they had computer forums, it was only dvd discussion. Couldn't get manufacturer help but ya'll figuered it out. I swear when i first started coming here everyone but me was a "kid".(under 25). I still don't know as much as the rest of you on computers but got to many kids to keep track of instead. It'll calm down always does. back to lurkin'

No, you were asking why we were bitching in a thread and you said "why bitch? doesn't do no good. Status? who needs it." I assumed you meant status as member level, right?

Had you paid attention, you would have realized that "no count posting in Safety Valve" is something that came from complaints, including those from the Safety Valve. Now if someone wants to accuse you of something, they'd need to know you better than I do. LOL Which is nada. Point being, some things do come from bitching.

The_OGS
The system is a generation or so old, according to how you look at it. The Northwood P4s were replaced by the Prescotts (bad move at Intel) and now there are the duo core systems. A P4 Northwood with a mild OC can blow a 3.8GHz Prescott out of the water on bench results. The venerable X850 gpu is old tech now. Doesn't take long with PC equipment. ;) My next build will be newer tech with a dual core and a PCIe graphics card along the lines of the X1900 ATI Radeon. This custom was just a venture into building a good low cost single core performer to tide me over while collecting parts. Part of the hardware from this system may end up in the next. One of the nice things about customs, a bunch of parts are interchangable; i.e. PSU, RAM, drives, cables, case, and cards. Just depends on what a person wants to upgrade. I could go with just a mobo, gpu, and dual core processor and make a dual core AMD out of this Intel system. If you're into hardware, you may want to check out the following link. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/235934/1901370-124751 I fear I've bored everyone too much on this thread with hardware. We're supposed to be bitching. LOL The only part of AD where you can get into trouble for playing nice too long. ;)

My bitch is towards people who bitch about members who have been giving great advice for a long while. I rarely even post anything cause I don't have the patience to deal with the same RE2,Stealth, Spanglish, and the it must be new protection cause I got a CRC error crap. I thank all of the addicts that have taught me everything I know about DVD burning. I think the problem with most of the noobs that post drivel is they don't even know how to use a PC and they want to skip learning and researching. I mean if you don't understand DMA then maybe you should stop posting how you can't understand what's the BFD, memorex works for me. Anyway for those of you that are dedicated to making this site great, thanks for making it easy for the lurkers to find relevant information by way of the ever so simple search function. Maybe if the search box was flashing or had hair around it then there would be less repeat questions. One better would be to base the rating system on how many times you use the search bar.

Search box...are you kidding? They won't take the time to type a legible sentence let alone spend 10 mins. using the search box!

Hey! I'm bitching!.....and I like it!

Anyway,as long as we keep giving them the answers (over and over) they won't need to search for them. But not doing that would'nt be nice of us...would it? So we keep on doing it.

I've typed up a sweat and must go to sleep now!

I wish noobs would use the search box, I was so tired of all those "Chicken Little" threads. And they always begin, "I looked but could not fine any info" when there was two threads on it right below where they posted. I thought "Google" was in everyone's vocabulary these days :)

@Arniebear,

How often is the question posted about the differences between + and - R media? Maybe before posting a question it needs to go thru a Screener search engine which will display a selection of possible solutions....

@blivetNC - now that's the one that irks me the most, i just answered one of those a few minutes ago, well i didn't answer it as such, i thought 'nah' (or 'arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' more likely) and answered it along the lines of 'teleporting thread to a forum with all the other same questions'. couldn't find the energy to reply properly
