Been using Firefox for almost 2 years - think that long or longer.

I have tried and like Firefox but it screws AOL up.
Could be the other way around too...LOL

I'm a long time ff user just like binkie, I'm forced to use IE at work and absolutely hate it.

Txs Ireland! Just checked and I'm a few versions behind.

locoeng -LOL me too - IE at work - hate it - tried to persuade them to let me switch but they nixed that. Well maybe once we switch over servers to our new environment it will be a different story. Then again I may just do it myself :)

Trojan piggybacks on Firefox

New Trojan installs itself as Firefox extension, according to a security advisory by McAfee.

A new Trojan horse making the rounds has been installing itself as a Firefox extension, according to security company McAfee.

The FormSpy Trojan attacks computers that have already been infected with the Downloader-AXM Trojan, according to a security advisory McAfee issued Tuesday. Once FormSpy is executed, it installs itself as a component of the popular Firefox browser.

The FormSpy spyware then gleans users' sensitive information, such as credit card and bank account numbers, from the user's browser and forwards it to a malicious Web site. But this Trojan is capable of other tricks, as well, McAfee noted.

The main executable is also capable of sniffing passwords from ICQ (the "I seek you" program that alerts users to the presence of acquaintances online), FTP (file transfer protocol, IMAP (Internet message access protocol, an e-mail management program) and POP3 (post office protocol, a data format for e-mail) traffic, McAfee warned.

Although the FormSpy Trojan has surfaced, it is considered a low risk, McAfee said. What's more, users may have already taken steps to mitigate the earlier Downloader-AXM Trojan that is needed for the FormSpy Trojan to take hold.

I upgraded this afternoon...

I'm not even supposed to be online at work and I would have to call IT to install it for me because I don't have any admin priveledges...and that ain't gonna happen.

theres more crap..

JavaScript opens doors to browser-based attacks

Security researchers have found a way to use JavaScript to map a home or corporate network and attack connected servers or devices, such as printers or routers.

The malicious JavaScript can be embedded in a Web page and will run without warning when the page is viewed in any ordinary browser, the researchers said. It will bypass security measures such as a firewall because it runs through the user's browser, they said.

"We have discovered a technique to scan a network, fingerprint all the Web-enabled devices found and send attacks or commands to those devices," said Billy Hoffman, lead engineer at Web security specialist SPI Dynamics. "This technique can scan networks protected behind firewalls such as corporate networks."

more stuff here, this is one of the reasons i do not use McAfee

McAfee will issue a patch tomorrow for a vulnerability affecting its SecurityCenter application, a security software management tool.

The vulnerability, rated "medium" by McAfee as far as its severity, could allow an unauthorized user to run code on a remote machine, the vendor said. It affects McAfee's SecurityCenter versions 4.3 through 6.0.22.

Security vendor eEye Digital Security notified McAfee of the vulnerability on July 19. eEye withheld details of the vulnerability to not put users at risk, rating the problem as "critical."

all that's really needed is to steer clear of IE with the largest barge pole you can find, use a decent router with in-built firewall, up to date virus software (that get updated every day), and don't click on something if you don't know what it is. Once in a blue moon i use the spyware utils such as ccleaner etc.

Jan, if ye need someone to smack all your colleague's around a bit till they stop doing retarded crap like that, ye know who to call right ? ;)

My bitch for today is about all the idiots that hand out all the hacker scene's good 0day exploits to moronic script kiddies, who then use them for less than legal purposes.
It's not only bloody annoying, it also killing all the good workable exploits for the people who use them professionally....

@arniebear

I fired aol today now that the new policy has changed. Everything works like before except no support. Stangley enough I only waited on phone 10 minutes and they were obliging. Painless. At first there was the phone robot that I had to talk to. Worst thing I've ever encountered on phone. It did understand when I told it I wanted to talk to a person tho.
