DAM I GOT SCREWED,I WANTED TO MELT DOWN ME 5 MILLION PENNYS AND NICKLES...

Melting coins is now super-illegal

Thinking of getting rich by melting down pennies and nickels to take advantage of higher metal prices? Think again -- Uncle Sucker's got a new law and will put you in jail if you get caught at the crucible.

There have been no specific reports of people melting coins for the metal, Mint spokeswoman Becky Bailey says. But the agency has received a number of questions in recent months from the public about the legality of melting the coins, and officials have heard some anecdotal reports of companies considering selling the metal from pennies and nickels, she says.

Under the new rules, it is illegal to melt pennies and nickels. It is also illegal to export the coins for melting. Travelers may legally carry up to $5 in 1- and 5-cent coins out of the USA or ship $100 of the coins abroad "for legitimate coinage and numismatic purposes."

Huh -- never thought of melting a coin for profit. Until now. Sounds intriguing. I smell a business model.

NO BITCH,JUST A SMILE
Gates Says Just Buy a CD and Rip It

By Jimmy Daniels
Contributing Writer, RealTechNews

Bill Gates met with a bunch of bloggers today in an hour long any question goes session that included free Zunes for everyone. Wonder how much traffic you have to get to get an invite? :)

Gates didn?t get into what could replace DRM, but he did give some reasonably candid insights suggesting that he thinks DRM is as lame as the rest of us.

Gates said that no one is satisfied with the current state of DRM, which ?causes too much pain for legitimate buyers? while trying to distinguish between legal and illegal uses. He says no one has done it right, yet. There are ?huge problems? with DRM, he says, and ?we need more flexible models, such as the ability to ?buy an artist out for life? (not sure what he means). He also criticized DRM schemes that try to install intelligence in each copy so that it is device specific.

His short term advice: ?People should just buy a cd and rip it. You are legal then.? Source: TechCrunch

We Say: Now I know everyone who reads the post, will want to comment on the statement from Arrington about the look on Bill?s face when he saw everyone had a laptop from Apple, so let the argument begin.

My bitch of the day:

I can't get Red vs Blue to download (any of the episodes). It keeps timing out despite a router and modem reset, clean Anti-virus and Anti-spyware scans, and a computer reset. Hopefully my problem will be fixed soon. :p

Chill a Coke,beer in 2 minutes

or as most of ye drink here is>>>>>>>>>Milk

That would be about 20-25 minutes in a freezer. If you put [the can] in a bucket of ice, that would halve that time. If you put water in that ice, it'd be cold (+- 5c) enough to drink in about 4-6 minutes, if you put salt in that water, you'd reduce the chill time to just over 2 minutes. Agitating the can in the water, rolling it around, reduces the chill time even more.

The fastest possible way is to grab a CO2 fire extinguisher and unload that sucker on the can.

Are iPods shrinking the British vocabulary?

12/15/2006 11:37:16 AM, by Nate Anderson

A new study finds that most British teens don't have a large vocabulary?12,682 words. By comparison, those aged 25 to 34 know more than 21,000 words. The cause, at least in part, can be chalked up to the use of too much technology that isolates teens from interacting with real people, so says a new report from Lancaster University linguistics professor Tony McEnery.

McEnery found that one-third of most teenage speech was made up of only 20 common words like "yeah," "no," and "but." This is problematic for teenagers seeking jobs in the corporate world, where at least some level of professionalism is required when communicating with others.

The report finds that "technology isolation syndrome" is part of the problem. Teenagers spend increasing amounts of time immersed in television, video games, and music from their iPods?activities where they listen rather than speak. As a result, they don't get much practice at communicating clearly with others, and they aren't exposed to a wide vocabulary.

The study has led the British press to lament that the country is filled with "Vicky Pollards" (a character on the UK TV show Little Britain that non-UKers can see on YouTube). But technology might not be totally to blame; going to college, for instance, is certainly a vocabulary booster.

The debate is really one about the place of rhetoric in education and public life. Though a core part of the Renaissance curriculum, debate and public speaking have gradually faded from prominence at most schools, replaced with an approach better suited to stuffing large amounts of information into large numbers of students as though they are Christmas turkeys. McEnery's report suggests bringing speech, rhetoric, and debate back into schoolrooms, but having all the students talk takes time, and time is money, and money is scarce.

My bitch,

My ISP stopped accepting my email password and I couldn't receive incoming messages. It was like this for two days and I sent them an email with my complaint. They said to check my password again in four hours after they made their scheduled server update. I did so and it didn't work. I sent them another email and they said they would fix it. After three days it still didn't work.

Only after calling them this morning and waiting on the line did somebody actually do anything productive to solve my problem. When I want service I want it NOW, not in three days.

My Anit-Bitch, I went to see one of the BEST shows/concert ever created.

Today the "Trans-Siberian Orchestra" came to Philladelphia. Before you guys say anything It isn't an orchestra like you think, it is Classical Xmas music played in Metal with guitar and everything. Laser Light show fire and alot odf special effects IT is fun for everybody. The show is definitley worth the money($50) also $1 dollar of every ticket goes to the salvation army. Today the stadium was sold out with just under 13,000 people. The show is about 3 hours long( And really worth the stay)

I've been to their show 2 years ago and that was great. But let me tell you this is 10 times better than 2 years ago. Also we(Philly) had a special guest on the show at the end because the band's first show started in Philladelphia. It is Great, really recommended.

Are the the tour dates..... you can also check the site for alot of info, bio and everthing.

I respect the TSO and what they do. They have revived many Beethoven classics and Wizards in Winter is spectacular. I had a chance to go with a friend and his dad back in 2004 when they were playing in Chicago.

Brain can repair alcohol's damage

December 17, 2006 05:29:50 PM PST

Excessive drinking can damage brain cells but the brain can repair some of the harm, a team of international researchers said on Monday.

But they warned alcoholics should get sober as quickly as possible because the longer they continue to drink heavily, the less likely their brains will be able to regenerate.

"The core message from this study is that, for alcoholics, abstinence pays off and enables the brain to regain some substance and to perform better," said Dr Andreas Bartsch, of the University of Wuerzburg, in Germany.

Slurred speech, blurred vision and an inability to walk without swaying can occur after a few drinks but chronic alcohol abuse can cause more lasting damage and poor general health.

Research in animals has shown that alcohol can disrupt the development of new brain cells in adults. Heavy drinking during pregnancy can also affect the development of the baby's brain.

Bartsch and scientists from Germany, Britain, Switzerland and Italy uncovered the brain's regenerative ability by measuring the volume, form and function of the brains of 15 alcoholic men and women before and after they stopped drinking to see how much they changed over seven weeks.

Using sophisticated scanning techniques they showed that after 38 days without a drink the brain volume of the patients increased by an average of nearly 2 percent.

"Only the one patient with the longest history of alcohol dependence had a slightly reduced brain volume," said Bartsch, whose findings are reported online by the journal Brain.

The volunteers also performed better in concentration and attention test and had higher levels of chemicals linked to brain cell function.

All of the patients had stopped drinking without medication.

"The human brain, and particularly its white matter, seems to possess genuine capabilities for re-growth," Bartsch said.
