Data error on DVD Shrink

I get an error message on some dvd's. most recently was chicken little and now on chronicles of narnia. the message is:
failed to read file "e:\"
Data Error (cyclic redundancy check).
It usually happens about 6% to 8% in. any suggestions?

I just got this message to with Broke Back Mountain using DVD Shrink.
Curious to know why.

I just backed up Chicken Little with DVD Decryptor and Shrink 3.2. I got the same error msg. I guess the new encryption technique is to put a bad pgc into the mix. You can get shrink to work if you process the entire movie thru Vobblanker. Vobblanker will tell you that there are files that it wants to skip. These are the bad guys you have to deselect skip and process EVERYTHING. After that, Shrink should work. Good luck The shrink errors are its inability to handle the new encryption technique, I guess. I also heard that shrink is no longer being updated. That may be why its starting to show more problems with new movies.

Ok here is what I tried.
I used the latest version of DVD Decrypter and stored the
dvd to a folder.
I then used DVD Shrink and took the movie from the folder
I created with DVD Decrypter and it worked out perfect.
Keep in mind that I had AnyDVD running in the background
so I dont know if that was needed or not.

zyzyx is correct. That message is usually because of the encryption. You can use Freeware and rip the DVD to HD using DVDFAB Decrypter then use VobBlanker and then Shrink or you can use AnyDVD ( free 21 day trial offer).
Below is a guide to use and you can substitute Shrink for Recode>

Sounds like a Sony disc. Sony uses Arcos protection and normally throws in a bad sector as backup. The latest version AnyDVD will bypass both forms of protection removing the arcos encryption and patch the bad sector.

I'm sorry I forgot to mention. I did not have anything running in the background when I ripped Chicken Little. Anydyd should be able to take care of this movie. And then shrink will work. My Bad, hope it helps someone.

I am using Anydvd trial version and dvd shrink to get Narnia to work. Seems to be encoding just fine so far. Typically I use DVD43 and that does the trick except lately for Chicken Little and Narnia.

Is there any reason not to pay and buy AnyDVD if you wanted to purchase it? Im sorry if this is against the rules in anyway, but id like to be clear on whether its safe to purchase or not. Please let me know if any of you in the states have bought it or if you think its not safe to do. Im looking for the easiest method to be honest without having to run like 3 different programs.

If you want it go ahead as it is safe to buy as they keep updating it as the problems w/ the movies come out. The other people that use the free programs do so because they are free and they work also

Thanks for the reply. I am very tempted to purchase it because its so easy just having it running in the background, though $39 is a lot of money. How much time does it take if you go the free route and run DVDFAB and VOBBLANKER prior to getting to use DVDSHRINK? Im just curious to see if the cost vs time is effective enough to justify the purchase.

This is what really surprised me. I'll use Narnia as the example since there is a structure problem w/ the DVD. I ripped the movie to HD using DVDFAB Decrypter time was 14m.05s. Ran it through VobBlanker time was 5m.15s. Total time for the 2 programs was 19 minutes 20 seconds. Tried to do the movie w/ it and Shrink and got stopped so I now ripped it to HD so FixVTS would work to correct the structural errors. Time to rip to HD was 17m.21s. The time difference was about 2 minutes but FixVTS is a lot quicker but VobBlanker does alot more. I own AnyDVD and very rarely use it unless I am doing a D/L and then I use DVDDecrypter( w/ special setup) along w/ AnyDVD. I would suggest you buy it as they have been good at getting the encryption updates but you can wait to buy it as the free progams are still there and work

I downloaded the trial of AnyDVD last night as I found Chicken Little and Narnia to be nogos with just Shrink. I ran Shrink while I slept with AnyDVD running in the background for Narnia and it did it fine. Total time with the extra analyze and the other option for extra sharpness with the burn I think took about 1 hour and 15-20 minutes. Overall thats not bad. I think if I had just done a regular Shrink with those options off that it would have been about 30-45 minutes max instead. Are you saying using the other programs that the time it takes to rip the movie plus the burn is less then 20 minutes? Please clarify.

That was just the rip to HD and the correction of the DVD Structure. No burn was done. I only use DVD Shrink to check the size of the movie only to see if I need to use DVD-RB. Also I never try to do one on the fly as I like to put the movie on the HD

Ah, ok. I always rip to the HD and then burn atleast one copy right away because my HD is only 111gigs(120gb) and with no movies on it I have only about half of it available, so once I put 12 or so on, im left with 5-15gigs like I am now. I really need to pick up a 250-300gb HD to store them on. Its just too bad they cost too much for me right now. Thanks for all the info.
