I am able to encode discs fine but everytime I click on "Backup" Shrink freezes then crashes...I tried unistalling and reinstalling several times...I have Sata drives if that helps. It was crashing when I'd click on "Backup" and I would relaunch and then it worked...now it just crashes over and over again...any help would be appreciated!

are you using Nero to burn the discs?

The name of the movie would help, but....
DVD shrink is more than likely crashing because it can't handle the copy protection on the disk, it's no longer updated, so if the DVD is protected by sony's or microvision's encryption process, shrink will either crash or display an error condition.

Instead of using DVD shrink, you'll need to use a free ripper/decrypter called DVDFab decrypter (this one is updated frequently), you can use it to rip the files to your hard drive. Get it here:

Once DVDfab is done, you'll have the DVD's entire contents (video files) ripped to a VIDEO_TS folder on you're hard drive.

Run DVD shrink and open the files created by DVDFab (use the open files tab and browse to the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab and choose it), shrink will import the files, at this point you can use shrink as you normally would to reauthor the DVD and shrink the file size to fit on a single layer disk.

It was crashing on everything....I spent 2 hours trying to fix this problem and reading on this forum...and... I ran the Nero Info and under System ASPI it said not installed... I don't even know what it is but I read in another thread something about it so I Googled it, found an installation for it, installed it and now its working. No more crashing!!!WinXP is such a JOKE!!!!

Any way thanks for the quick responce to my post!!!!

Of cource I fix the problem 10 minutes after posting about it...LOL.

I'll try that DVDFab...I had dlaoded it from a post you made earlier...Thx!

Glad to see you're up and running again. If shrink does start giving you trouble (and it will, sooner or later) backing up your DVD's, then it's time to give DVDFab a try.
