I never came across the Office Depot brand (in fact, I never come across store brands). Are OD good? It's more of a rhetorical question than anything because I only use Verb or TY.

@Mr Pink: According to catfreak (and he would probably know) Office Depot does use high quality manufacturers for its media. I believe he said it was either Ritek or Ricoh media, typically. Not being familiar with those brands, I don't know how they compare to MCC, but I'll guess that it's either equal to, or slightly below, MCC/Verbatim quality. Personally, I'd stick with Sony/Verbatim/TY, but that's just because I've had great success with it (I'm just starting to use the Sony DVD+Rs. I know the TY media will be great, but I've just bought a 50 pack of the 16x from Taiwan, which I'm going to burn at max speed to see how it turns out. I was told the Taiwan Sony media is pretty comparable or identical to MCC.

Also note: If you're into Lightscrbe media, Best Buy's got clearance prices on 10packs of Verbatim DVD+Rs, $5.99/pack of 10.

Whoa. Where's this? Online or at your local store? If it's local it's probably not over here by me :(

Thanks for the tip on OD media.

Question on the Office Depot DVDs. Which do we buy and look for, MIJ or MIT? Are they 4x, 8x or 16x.What would they code out as? Thanks....

The Office Depot discs code as follows:

+R  8x RitekR03
+R 16x RicohJpnR03
+RW 4x RicohJpnW11

-R  8x RitekG05
-R 16x RitekF1
-RW 4x RitekW04

I have personally used all of the above except the -R 16x and the -RW 4x

I don't get really fancy scans (like Taiyo Yuden) with the Ritek discs, but they play on everything ... and I can't honestly say that about TY

@Mr Pink: The deal on the Lightscribe discs at Best Buy was just something I noticed while I was checking the other specials in the store itself. I didn't look for this deal online, since I knew what sales they were running from the forums. At my store, they had quite a few of those 10 packs, at least 20 or so.

Catfreak.... Just got back from Office Depot and picked up 2 8x DVD+, Ritek ro3. I opened them up and they are all 100 of them have air bubbles around the stacking ring , in the clear part by the hole before the dye.Right next to the inked lot number. Is this how these OD are? Even on the cheapest crappiest media I have not seen anything like this. I tried to take a picture to post but it does not show up. Whats your thoughts?

Well I took back both Office Depot 8x DVD+ spindles. I was able to exchange them for the 8x DVD- and a 16x DVD-.They code out as RitekGO5 8x and RitekF1 16x just as you stated catfreak..These look good NO BUBBLES!.. The only issue is ONLY THE DVD+ ARE ON SALE, NOT THE DVD-. But since I was a unhappy customer on my previous purchase they let me have the minuses at the same sale price..If you guys buy the DVD+ plus check for air bubbles around the stacking ring and by the ink lot number at the center hole...

Sorry about your car jasper44. Was it the Bloods or the Crypts,LOL

I missed that OD sale, but for 26 cents apiece,I've seen better. I see staples have those sony's on sale tomorrow.I hope they are the 1x-8x speed. I've got about 4 or 5 empty ink cartridges to unload there.Might was well get my sony tys for $11.94 after the ink cartridge voucher!!!

@saugmon,
Good luck finding 1-8X Sony DVD+R at Staples. Last I was there, most all where 1-16x Made in Taiwan. However, If you look around the store up on shelves, you can probably find some DVD+R 1-8x
Made in Japan.
Plan B: Take Staples Flyer to Best Buy & They WILL Price Match Staples if they're in the same city/town. Stock-up on those Made in Japan Sonys. They are really getting scarce.Good luck my Friend!

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

No bestbuy in my town and no staples in the town that has my nearest best buy.

Oh well,I got a walmart about a 5 iron away.If my staples that's accross the street from walyworld has the 16x sony's,I'll take the flier to walmart. They had lots of sony tys.The spacer theory didn't work for my nearby walmart. Both taiwanese and japanese spindles have the white spacer on the plus 1x-8x.

I'd still rather get them at staples so I can use the $3 ink vouchers. I will find out tomorrow. I had to work all weekend, UGGH!
