I have been using DVD Shrink for a while now. I have only had problems with two dvds HItch and The Punisher. Well today I went to try to copy Chronicles of Narnia, but when I hit Backup is says something along the lines of Cannot read E:/ Copy Protection. Is there a way around this. I use DVD Shrink to copy the complete dvd, extras and all that. I also have DVD Decryptor on my computer, but mostly use it to burn games.

Yeah, Narnia has the RipGuard protection on it. If you don't have AnyDVD, you'll have to rip the disc with DVDFab Decrypter. That should do the trick. If not, try VobBlanker.

Narnia will not back up to file or disc with just VOB Blanker alone (I tried it). As mentioned you will need AnyDVD or DVDfab to successfully back this movie up using what ever combination of programs. I used AnyDVD+Vob Blanker+NERO 6 RECODE2 to successfully back up this flick 67% compression.:P

use dvd region+css free and shrink dvd at same time, works like a charm, no special tricks. never had a movie i couldn't crack through, ever!

Currently using the following w/o any problems to date:
AnyDvd, DvdDecrypter, DvdShrink, DvdFab Gold, DvdIdle Pro, Dvd Region-CSS Free, CloneDVD2, Nero Ultimate.
Working for a major DVD Distributor has its perks.

i have been using dvd region + css free for quite some time now and the number of times that it could not handel the ripguard or other things that are put on the disks, is about one in ten that it could not do the job, this program just breeses right through it as long as your version is up to date and it still does up date not like the slysoft any dvd , it is a verry good program also it has it 's good points also like it telles you what it found and report's it while dvd region + css free dose not do that but i am glad to see other users using this program more, keep up the good work

If you want no more problems buy AnyDVD it's updated regularly and for life best $34 you'll ever spend on software. type afterdawn in the coupon area to get the price down to 34. There are other free ways tho but this is simplicity. you got it to work in no time.

I agree with garmoon - AnyDVD is worth whatever you spend for it. I paid full ($39.00) price and never looked back.

Besides any dvd, which is not free, there are other decrypters.

1. dvdfab decrypter, free at DVDIdle website, under 'free stuff'
2, dvddecrypter, used in conjuntion with pgcedit. Go to digital digest forum to get the installer for these programs

dvdfab is easier to use than #2.

Will DVDFab/VOB Blanker/Shrink(A.K.A. the Alkohol method) work for this movie and for King Kong as I'd like to make sure that I can back them up successfully before I buy them. Thanks

hmaurice,
I'm not sure if this will help you but I had problems with Narnia which I fixed like this.

Using DVDShrink I did the usual quick analyse or what it normally does at the beginning. I had to go with the reauthor mode ie. no menus and extras.
Select the main file and choose your sound tracks and subtitles. Right click on the title file (in the main window)to edit the start/end frames. Then select to start at chapter 2. Now backtrack the start frame until you reach the beginning of the walt disney logo animation - don't go too far back. For some reason reading the first part of chapter one was not possible.
Now just 'backup' as usual.

hmaurice,
DVD43 might not have updated yet to do this movie. You can try the 21 day free trial of AnyDVD as that does work. If you do not want to spend $$ then you have to use DVDFAB Decrypter and rip to HD.

That error code either means it can not do the encryptions or the disk has scratches, bad mastering press

DVD Shrink and the latest AnyDVD worked fine. However Shrink compresses it to 55.4% so I used a DL and kept it original.
Looks great on my 55' Toshiba.

To successfully rip and backup "The Chronicles of Narnia", use the following tools. Yes... most of my recommendation tools are FREE and it has been proven to work 100% flawlessly.

<<< My Primary Method (some tools are NOT FREE) >>>

(1) DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker - to rip and post process the VIDEO_TS.IFO for "security" or free of junks (i.e to filter out "invalid data structure, invalid navigation or any left over dummy cells/junks).
(2) DVD-RB Pro + CCE SP - to encode (the best encoder + best quality)
(3) Nero Burning Rom - to burn

<<< Method 2 (Free) >>>

(1) DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker
(2) DVD Shrink - to transcode
(3) DVD Decrypter - to burn

<<< Method 3 (Free) >>>

(1) DVDFAB Decrypter + VobBlanker
(2) DVD Shrink - to transcode
(3) ImgBurn - to burn

<<< Method 4 (Free) >>>

(1) DVD Decrypter + PSL plugins (PgcEdit) + FixVTS
(2) DVD Shrink - to transcode
(3) DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn - to burn

<<< Method 5 (retail) with AnyDVD >>>

(1) rip/transcode with whatever tool(s) you have with AnyDVD running
(2) burn with your desire engines

Best of lucks to all and happy burning!!

I was able to do it with Decrypter in standard file mode (ie did not do ISO) and then compressed and burned with Shrink (actually Nero burned, but it was part of Shrink's piggyback process).

aca28, and others in the know...

I have been backing up my DVD's with DVD Decrypter & Shrink. But, I notice some degradation when I am done. I see that you posted Shrink applies compression at 55.4 percent.

How can I back up my stuff at a much higher quality? Is there a setting I can change, or some better software? Recommendations, please.

Thanks.

@Rebelyun

Shrink doesn't compress every movie at 55%, only Narnia aca28 was talking about. Shrink's compression depends on how large a file the movie is and what you want to keep on the disc. I for one just back up the movie. I leave the xtra junk off and the compressions are usually very good. If your burner is capable of burning DL discs then you will get a 100% copy. But the discs are still around @$2.00 apiece. For special movies that are extremely long I will use DLs.
