Today i found out that I could use Shrink for everything i need to burn a dvd movie (decoding and then burning). Since a lot of the info i have seen around is about using several programs, i just wanted to make sure, if i use Shrink to make a back up copy of a DVD will the quaily be good and everything?

also, is this is the case, why do so many people use 2-3 different programs to burn dvd movies?

shrink will burn the disc using nero & has good results (nero version 6.6.1.4 did have some flaws & wont burn with shrink)
i personally use different programs because sometimes shrink alone cannot bypass the latest copy protection on some newer discs (as shrink is no longer updated).

as for quality - you will lose some quality using shrink as it compresses the files, there are other programs available that are supposed to produce better quality (dvd rebuilder is supposed to give the best results, so i have read, although i have never used it)

if you are going to be watching your back ups on a big tv screen (now or in the future) then you might notice the loss of quality, i just have a 25" tv & don't really notice the loss.

if you are concerned about the loss of quality, you could always buy dual layer dvdr as the end result will be as good as the original.

i hope this helps

Dvd shrink cannot backup and burn a disc all by it's lonesome. It's only a ripper and compressing program. No Burn Engine!!

Therefore you are using at least 2 programs and don't even know it, LOL!

Do you have nero6/copytodvd/dvd decrypter/or IMGburn on your pc? You must have one of those programs, otherwise you could not use dvd shrink to burn a dvd.

You probably have yours set up like mine:
Dvd shrink to rip and autoburned by nero/dvd decrypter/or copytodvd. No extra step involved because of the autoburning with nero.Very effective. A lot of other newbs said the same thing at first and were awed when they found out some other program was silently doing the burning.

When you go into dvd shrink and click the backup tab, Look at that opening screen. It's the Target device screen. There you will see a disc with a flame icon. This will say Select backup target:Your burner model and # will be listed there.Click on the arrow to the right of your model# and look for the check mark on that screen. My checkmark is under Burn with nero along with my burner and model#.

Also open up dvd shrink/edit/preferences/File-I/O. Look at the box that says Enable burn with nero. If it's ticked, you're using nero. If not, your using dvd decrypter or copytodvd. That box is always ticked at default, until you untick it to try another burn engine.

Shrink and nero are a great combo for me,but dvd shrink can't handle every backup. Those newer encryptions do give it trouble. But a program called anydvd will take care of that. It runs in the background to help rip those problematic encryptions. Once activated, you don't even realize it's running.

Here's a pic to tell which program is doing your autoburning:

The red, squiggly circle is for autoburning with nero 6 or higher
The green, squiggly circle is for dvd decrypter, but not sure of the autoburning.
