Many thanks to all & especially IRELAND. Since DVD-X-copy went the way with decrypter or vice versa, I stareted using DVD/fab/plat, which works well most of the time, but I'm concerned with backing up my dvd's over 125 min (over the 4.7 gigs). so is it better to use the shrink/anydvd to do those?? Thanks

SPUDS1 ,
If you want to use Plat. then go ahead but it is such an iffy program and Shrink is alot better. The time has nothing to do w/ it as it is the size of the files. Look at a Disney movie and the animation involved. Usually a Disney movie is larger in gb's vs one that is of the same time that is not an animation film. An Analogy would be to compare a cheese sandwich to a 3 layer sub. Both are the same size but there is more in the sub. I would use DVDFAB Decrypter and then Shrink if you want to go free. If not then use AnyDVD and then Shrink. If you really want quality then use the free version of DVD-Rebuilder w/ HC encoder but it does take alot more time

Many thanks Car.Mike, your explaination is great, I never considered file size that way. Slysoft just sent me an update for the AnyDVD program virsion 5.9.5.2. So, based on your info, I'll give AnyDVD & shrink a shot. Doesn't AnyDVD work in the background & I burn with shrink? At the risk of being pushy, what web site would I find DVD-Rebuilder w/HC encoder? My first test of anydvd/shrink will be to backup my copy of "Flying Leathernecks" which I have not been able to do w/DVD/FAB/PLAT. Again, many thanks for your help & support. Have a great week.

Again my thanks Car.Mike. I went to the site, started to read the guide, then decided to print it out to have it handy before I downloaded the program, oops the taboo page appeared, the ripping info has been deleated as per the law. I followed some of the after dawn trail & read, read, read; then went to the "new Irish Pub." I could not find the info on ripping to fill in the blank. I'm not too "swift" with this stuff, so if there is a direction you can point me too, I'd be appreciative. A tip of the hat to you & the people who post these guides & helpful info, it is so great for a newbie like me. Cheers....have a great week!!

SPUDS1 ,
I am using the Pro version but It should be close enough to the free version. I think all of the steps are there but I might have missed a few. Someone will correct it if it is wrong
I am using Rockas Skin- At the top under Skins click on Rockas and follow .
Source Path= is where you ripped the DVD files to; Just use the browse button on the right and point it to those files
I created 2 folders on my Desktop. 1st folder was Working Path Folder. The second folder was Output Path Folder
Beside the Working Path go to the browse button and find it on your desktop and click on it
Do the same Output Path
1. Go to Mode and make sure there is a check mark by HC Mode
2. Go to Mode and you will see backup mode. Put a check mark next to how you want to do the DVD. I usually do Movie Only
3. Go to Settings and make sure there there is a check mark next to standard size DVD-5
4. Go back to the Source Path and high light the DVD you ripped
5. Insert a blank DVD in burner
6. Lower right is the Backup DVD button click it and wait about 2-3 hours ( depends on you system as it could be longer)
I normally turn off cable modem, Antivirus, Firewall, and screensaver( I go to 400 minutes).
so to repeat:
1. Rip DVD to HD
2. Turn off cable modem, Antivirus, Firewall, and screensaver
3. Start DVD-Rebuilder
4. I now just turn the screen off
5. Go get Coffee or go shopping
