Let me start off by saying:

The full movie size w/o ripping anything - 7.95Gb
Slyfox AnyDVD running in backround
DVD Shrink - Negative - CRC Error
DVD Decryptor/Fab Express - Negative - 1.51Gb of movie ripped 6.44Gb Missing
Exact CRC Error - DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.
Failed to read file "F:/"
Data error (cyclic Redundancy Check)

Any clue's?

Well this could have 2 things that may cause this problem.

1.The disc is dirty and needs cleaning.

or

2.What version of of AnyDVD are you using??

Sounds like a bad sector error placed strategically into the movie by those rascally rabbits over at the movie studio who produced the disc. Or it could very well be a bad press. Try downloading and installing the latest version AnyDVD. This'll patch the bad sector (if of course that is what it is). It's free for 21 days. After that you have to purchase or go back to getting hosed reads.

AnyDVD current version 5.9.5.3 is in use. It's def not a bad copy, went to work last night and got another copy cause I've had that happen once or twice, no luck. Has anyone else gotten this movie yet to test it?

Really? And the second disc gave you the same exact error? This sounds more like yet another type of protection maybe. Something possibly AnyDVD hasn't addressed or been familiarized with yet? That's an interesting one. Are you able to backup others with no probs?

If you are using the new AnyDVD then use the ripper in the program and rip to your HDD and then process with Shrink. The ripper will fix any suspect cells as it rips. Just right click on your red fox in the tray and then choose rip to HDD from the sidebar.

let me ask you a question do you work in a video store? the reason i am asking the movie fun with dick and jane dose not come out in stores untill 04/11/06 at least here in usa, i wont get my copy untill 04/07/06 i work in a video store so that is why i am asking, you might post a screen shot of any dvd and show us what it said, also there is a rip on the net so it can be riped so you might be doing something wrong , might try dvd region + css free works on a lot of newer movies.

Possible causes for CRC error:

The DVD you are trying to backup may be dirty, physically damaged (scratches) or badly authored. These are the most common reason that you get this error code - the DVD can't be read by your DVD reader/burner.

The other possible cause for this error code is: The DVD you are trying to backup is protected by the ARccOS copy protection system. DVD Shrink can't handle this protection on it's own and I know you stated you have anydvd, but try using DVD Decrypter (it's a better ripper) first before the files are handled by DVD Shrink.

Use DVD Decrypter to transfer the DVD to your hard disk. Use 'File mode' when you ripp the DVD. If you need it you can get it here;

http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1

After you have used DVD Decrypter and have the movie files on your hard disk - you should be able to use DVD Shrink with those files, having anydvd running in the backround.

NOTE: Some new Sony (and also from other companies) released DVD's have a modified version of ARccOS? on them and are not fully supported by DVD Decrypter version 3.5.4.0, so I would have anydvd running in the backround when using it, but you should change some of decrypter's setting to make it play well with anydvd, here are the changes:

To use DVDDecrypter with AnyDVD set I/O Model to SPTI or ElbyCDIO, Set CSS Cracking method to none, Disable checking for structure protection.

EDIT:
@arniebear, beat me to that submit button again..LOL..hey, I keep forgetting about the ripper that anydvd now has, it's also another tool to try (haven't had the need to yet since anydvd has done a great job for me so far), but thanks for reminding me about it.

@john123

I used the AnyDVD ripper on Narnia, because just AnyDVD and Decrypter produced a file that neither Shrink or Recode would open, however Clone would. The ripped file from AnyDVD opened right up with Shrink and Recode. I then ran it through DVDRB and it came out fantastic.

@Arniebear, you mention DVDRB. Is this another program?

You might ask: what is DVD REBUILDER?

Well, I'd consider it the most comfortable way of reducing DVD video data via an ENCODER (compared to a transcoder like DVD Shrink)

Encoders like CCE, ProCoder 1/2, HC Encoder (a total freeware MPEG-2 encoder made by Hank315 with amazing quality!), QuEnc, FreeEnc, NuEnc and so on can be used with DVD Rebuilder.

When it comes to large amounts of data to be reduced (i.e. DVDs with long running times plus additional content on the disc like bonus/extra material) you will run into trouble using transcoders and your final output quality cannot match that of an ENcoder-based solution.

Before DVD Rebuilder was available you had the choice:
- either use an encoder like CCE and do a movie ONLY conversion (i.e. no menus) or
- using the big 3(4...) method and go the hard and painful way of converting main movie + menu + whatever else you wanted

With DVD Rebuilder, creating a backup of your desired DVD including menu + bonus will not only be easy as could be but also result in very high quality without the hassle it took in former times.

On this page you will always be able to find the latest FREE as well as PRO version of DVD REBUILDER:

http://dvd-rb.dvd2go.org/modules.php...ownload&cid=14

First time users are strongly advised to download the INSTALLER-version of DVD Rebuilder because this version contains additionally required components (like avisynth or eclcce/eclpro etc)

The pro version requires a *donation* of some US$30 and offers additional features I wouldn't want to do without (menu-stripping etc) for an affordable amount of money

One of the best programs for highly compressed movies, the backups are great. It does take some time to do, Narnia took me 89 minutes on my P4 3.4 but it looks fantastic on my 52 inch set.

Could you knidly tell us how you did it

@tellboy
@luca
Shrink will decrypt and compress, but will NOT burn. So how did you burn??
Cause shrink did not do it for you all by itself!
Perhaps you have Shrink set auto to go to Nero.??

To successfully rip and backup "any new released movie(s)," all you ever needed is the latest from DVDFAB Decrypter (FREE) + VobBlanker (FREE), and then use whatever your desire transcoders or encoders afterward.

To make a long story short, here's how to do it:

(1) rip the movie(any movies) with the latest from DVDFAB Decrypter into your hard drive, wait until it's successfully completed (this usually takes like 12 - 15 minutes only).

(2) open up VobBlanker and follow the below steps:

(A) INPUT = load your already ripped VIDEO_TS.IFO from hard drive
(B) OUTPUT = make a new VIDEO_TS folder in your hard drive or if you have 2 hard drives, then set the new OUTPUT into a different destination aka hard drive (this will process faster like 5 minutes only)
(C) click "PROC.ALL" at the RIGHT
(D) click "PROCESS" at the bottom

That's it... easy as sippin' on some Heineken. Now just sit tight and wait until VobBlanker is completed, then load/import your newly created VIDEO_TS file/folder that VobBlanker created into DVD Shrink or Nero Recode 2 or DVD-RB Pro + CCE and perform your usual "transcoding/encoding" process. And of course, the rest is history.

Best of lucks to all and happy burning!

The easiest way to do this if you have 2 dvd drives is to download dvd fab express. I have been copying with it and it works great. I have copied dick and jane with now problem and also King Kong.

First to Alkohol, sorry but dvdfab doesn't cut it. Like every other program I used it kept leaving out the first 4 vts files. To Jamoskeal, I used AnyDVD and DVD Shrink only. I clicked full disc, after it read the disc I hit re-author. There's 2 titles, 1 is wide screen and 2 is full screen. Then hit backup. I burnt mine with copy to dvd, thats the program I use. I set DVD Shrink to send it to CopyToDVD to burn.

You'll need more than decrypter, it's copy guarded. I had no problem. Clone DVD2 & Any DVD together. Try them free for 21 days, get them here www.slysoft.com
