I was able to back Fun With Dick And Jane with DvdFab, there was no need for me to use VobBlanker.. In DvdFab I selected to rip the movie contents to the HD, the complete disc option did not work. You can also use AnyDvd and Shrink like some of the guys just mentioned, that combination worked for me with The Fog and other movies similar to these, Alkohols guides work all the time for me as well..........

Wow! I didn't have any probs with this movie I have done it a few different ways. Used anydvd/clonedvd2 no probs aswell also tried fab decrypter (wasn't aware andvd had a rip utility on it dah) but fab copied it to the hd no prob and then ran it through clondvd2 and made also ran it through shrink and made a iso with no probs. Also tried running it through rebuilder(not after clone with the whole file)with no probs. but then I ran into something really cool was PGCEDIT i seen a couple people mention it and with it you can rip it to the hd using decrypter 3.5.4.0 not to hard to do and it might come in handy if ya get something early and nothing else will work (While your waitin on them updates if ya know what I mean...)although I gotta say AnyDVD is ON TOP OF THEM UPDATES!!!

ALKOHOL, I've been getting help "making back-up" copies from you for quite awhile, I've never posted anything on here, but just wanted to
say thanks and I appreciate your hard work and dedication!
I have a quick question. Downloaded new version of dvdfab ran VOB and
ran dvdshrink to compress and burn dick and jane, I don't know how to burn with DVD Decrypter, and came out great. Question is Im using 16x DVD+R, is it alright just to set the burn speed on DVD Shrink to 8X instead of maximum to get a better quality? Also how do you burn with DVD Decrypter, I normally just compress and burn with dvdshrink?

@tombald

I know that you didn't ask me, but here's my 2 cents.

I get better results when setting the burn speed to 4x. I've tried other speeds and had problems with quality (granted, that was before I switched to TY media), but the chances of getting a better burn outweigh the small gain in speed for me.

As far as burning, in DVD Decrypter, go to Mode->ISO->Write, select your source ISO file and click on the Disk to DVD icon on the bottom left of the screen. You might want to consider using Imgburn (www.imgburn.com) to do your burning, though, because it was witten by the author(s) of DVD Decrypter and is updated (the latest version, 1.3.0 was released on April 13) regularly. It doesn't remove copy protection, but I've had good results using it.

I copied fun with Dick and Jane, clone dvd2 with AnyDVD did not work,went to DVD Shrink and changed quality settings to compensate with errors and with AnyDVD and everything worked just fine. Have had a lot of problems with clonedvd2,but DVD Shrink always come thru changing the quality settings,it is slower to copy but does a great job when used with AnyDVD.

Have you updated Nero to 6.6.1.4? The new update doesn't integrate with shrink anymore.. My suggestion to you is (1)disable Nero in the shrink settings. (2) Burn your movie to a folder. (3) Go to Nero----->burn dvd video files and burn them.

I backed up Mr & Mrs Smith using DVD FAB, VOB blanker & shrink/nero but recieved a horrible quality rating of 77 on Neros drive/disk quality check. I backed it up again without VOB blanker and received my typical 93 score.

memorex media +R 16X was used for both back ups ( Yes I know its crap media)

It was the first time I used VOB. I thought maybe it would improve my quality scores after reading Alkohol raving but its was worse.

Any thoughts ?

ldogg29,
VobBlanker has nothing to do w/ a PI/PO scan. That is up to the burner and the blank media and the speed of the scan.

When did/was the last time I raved about VobBlanker that it's going to "improve" the quality in results? Do you mind showing me? And of course, I get better results in addendum to "video quality & quality score" because I have VobBlanker "blank out" all of them junks/craps that I don't need them. And finally, the rest is history with DVD-RB Pro + CCE.

If you don't know what you're doing with VobBlanker than it ain't going to help you. In addition, all I gotta say is; "LOL, especially those lovely CMC MAG aka Memosux." If you want to do some scanning or see some valid evidence of "quality score and media", then I suggest you search my thread "Attn: Newbies... this is why you should NOT buy CMC MAG" or here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/262544

Cheers and good luck!

@Car.Mike

Good explanation you have there buddy. I guess some newbies will always be a noob regardless.

I almost laugh-out-really-loud when I saw this; "I thought maybe it would improve my quality scores after reading Alkohol raving but its was worse."

Alky, I was in no way trying to insinuate that you said it would improve Nero quality scores. I poke around these forums from time to time trying to educate myself and after reading how you consistently suggest the use of VOB, I thought I'd try it.

This type of off the wall response is EXACTLY why the written word doesnt always come across as intended.

Anyway, does anyone besides the Alcholoc have any thoughts on why using VOB in conjunction with DVD fab would decrease the quality of burn ?

I have some TDKs that I'll try as well to see if there is a difference in score..

Bottoms up !

ldogg29,
Since Memorex does not manuf. it own disk and they use 4 manuf's w/ no quality control you might have just gotten a bad disk. If you are happy w/ them and the TDK's then use them. I'll use Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden. You can buy the Verbatim's when they are on sale at BestBuy cheaper than you can buy the Memorex.

ldogg29,
Make sure you tell them that if you have problems w/ the blank media you will return it for a refund. I think Rima will send you a sample DVD. Most of the Big Internet sites are very reputable. Also while you are at it go to the burners website and see what the recommended blank media for that burner is. See if there is a firmware update that you might need for the burner to recog that blank media. If you burner is not a 16X then the newer blank media might give you a problem as the manuf of the burner does not always update the firmware for the newer blank media. Thusly you might get bad disc error code.

I just burned this using only AnyDVD and shrink. Started AnyDVD, started shrink, Clicked reauthor and selected main movie. This done a pile of junk then I clicked backup. Done more junk then asked for a blank dvd and burned it. Shrink must have burn software cause I just reformatted and haven't installed any
