My friend is using DVD Shrink and after the movie has analysised, he then clicks on backup and Shrink Exits out. The movie in an older movie from 1989 so it should not have a protection on it. What would the problem be.....? he even run it through DVDFab Decrypter and after it analysised it done the same thing.....?

Hi there @Dogman5. They close out with no error messages? Did you check event viewer for any application faults or errors?

After it is done anaylisising and when he clicks on backup the program justs exits out and no error or anything. He has done
a couple other movies that have been ripped, etc. to see if it works and it works fine but when he tries to do a backup of his movie that he bought an 1989 older movie it just exits out and nothing else. he tried it on another movie he bought and it is an older movie 1999 and he gets the same thing. It has got me stumped.?????

You mention the movies are 1989 or 1999, but were the movies just released to DVD? If so, they very well do have protection on them. You'd need something like AnyDVD to remove the protection. Click this AnyDVD to go to the site and download. It's free for 21 days. try that and let us know.

pntyliner No they are not just released movies but older movies he just bought a few days ago. Like I said he tried doind a movie that was already ripped, etc to see if his Shrink would work and it does them fine. He bought the movies last week and now wants to backup a few to take on a trip with him. He ripped the one movie with DVDFab Decrypter and Fab worked fine, but then when he opens it and after shrink analysises it Shrink just exits out without a warning, error or anything.

I might be confusing the way I describe newly released. Here is a link to Blockbuster.com, http://www.blockbuster.com/catalog/LoadCatalogList.action?channel...

This is the "New to DVD" section. Meaning, they are old and older movies the movie studios have finally gotten around to converting to DVD for release on DVD.

DVD movies were first introduced in 1997 and didn't go mainstream til about 98'. http://www.answers.com/topic/dvd

well it should not make a difference if they are just realeased or not. He run the one movies through DVDFab Decrypter and it still exited out after they were analysised. ?

What version of shrink are you using? The last/latest version is 3.2.0.15. The movies you describe are old so shrink shouldn't have a problem backing them up.

Edit: What are the names of the movies?

If the movies are "Old" movies just released to DVD a week or two weeks ago then DVD Fab Decrypter may not have the most recent fixes whereas AnyDVD (latest update 5.9.5.3 last night) does. These just released DVD's will have protection and very well may have the latest and greatest being used by MPAA. Outside of anything else, it wouldn't hurt to try it. Can definitely rule out this possibility then. It's simply a driver program which decrypts in the background. If you don't like it, simply uninstall. No spyware or anything. Just a thought. Hope it helps.

One of the movies is Basic Instinct 1999 and if I remember right it does not have any protection on it so shrink should be able to take care of it. Like I said he even tried DVDFab and it ripped fine until he opened DVD Shrink and then it analysised it fine and when he clicked backup Shrink exited out with out warning or error. He has the last version of Shrink.....?

Try this:
DVD decrypter is a much better ripper than DVD shrink when it come to DVDs that are a pain to backup, so use DVD decrypter in file mode to rip the entire movie to your hard drive.

Get DVD decrypter here;
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1

Here is a guide on exactly how it's done if needed;
http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvd-decrypter.php

Once DVD decrypter is done open the files using DVD shrink to reauthor the movie and shrink it down to fit on a DVD+/-R disk. (Just use the open files tab in shrink to open the files created by DVD decrypter, browse to the VIDEO_TS folder and choose it to open the files).

I recommend reauthoring the DVD to backup just the main movie and 5.1 AC3 english audio channel (dump all the extras, they could be the cause of the problem), here's a guide if needed;

Johnl123 He used DVDfab and it ripped fine and then was going to use shrink to finish but when he opened it and after shrink analysised it the program went POOF and no errors or anything.....He done a movie that had already been done and shrink worked fine analysising and all and worked fine. He was doing a movie he had bought an older movie Basic Instinct. Could shrink have a glitch in it and need to be reinstalled or what.....?

I've seen DVDs that refuse to be backed up when you try to do a whole movie back, that said....

Has he tried reauthoring the movie to backup just the main title before clicking on the backup tab in shrink, he should dump all the extras, as they could be the cause of the problem.???

I've also seen movies that would not backup when ripped in file mode, but would when an ISO image was created, that said...

Try using DVD decrypter in ISO read mode, decrypter will create an ISO image on your HDD, once done open the image using DVD shrink (goto:file-->open disk image, then browse to where you have the image and choose it to open it), once shrink has opened the image, reauthor as stated/described, then try backing up.

You could try uninstalling shrink and then re-install, but I don't believe this will solve anything.

You need to try all of these suggestions first, if all fail, try getting another copy of that disk from the store and try backing up with that DVD.

Thanx! he tried 2 different movies that he had purchased and they both done the same thing when he trys to back them up. He was able to re-author them and all but when he trys and back them up the programs just exits out without warning, error or anything. Have to work with it I guess. he has not tried reinstalling shrink but will.
This is a funny one.....?

I would say a complete uninstall and reinstall of Shrink will correct the problem.

FWIW, I had a similar problem. DVDShrink would get anywhere between 8-20% through the backup process and "poof" it would go away. It turns out that when I was installing my newest burner, I inadvertantly got a cable caught in the CPU cooling fan, causing the processor to overheat. It would appear that shrink is very CPU intensive, as DVDDecrypter, DVDFab, etc... would finish just fine.
