Welcome grembo,

This is more than likely a copy protection issue. DVD Shrink hasn't been updated for a long time and will not be, because of this, shrink alone can't handle the newer copy protection techniques placed on some of the newly released DVDs so you'll either get an error or it will simply quite on you.

Keeping it free:
Download a free ripper/decrypter called DVDFab decrypter and use it to rip the video files to your HDD, once it's done you should have a VIDEO_TS folder on your HDD, run DVD Shrink and use it to open the files, click on the open files tab and browse to where the VIDEO_TS folder is located and choose it, shrink will open/import the files and should be able to proceed as usual from that point.

Get DVDFab here;
http://209.172.35.173/download/DVDFabDecrypter29.exe

Here's a guide if need on using it;
http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvdfab_decrypter.php

If shrink won't open the files created by DVDFab, then they'll need to be processed thru vobblanker first, then open the newly created files by vobblanker with DVD shrink and proceed as you normally would.

get vobblanker here;

$$$
The other option is to use AnyDVD, its a driver that runs in the backround to crack the encryption and help shrink produce a backup. It's free for 21 days, if interested, check it out here;

Use Anydvd and believe

grembo,
Since you already own AnyDVD make sure it is the newest version. If it is right click the head of the fox in the taskbar and click on "Rip DVD-Video to Harddisk". After you rip it then use Shrink to open the files you ripped to HD. The new version of AnyDVD added FixVTS that corrects the structural problems. If there are problems w/ the rip then you might have a scratches disk or a bad Mastering Press and you will need to return the DVD to where you got it

Sorry grembo
I must of read too fast and didn't notice that you've got anydvd already. The latest version of anydvd should do the trick as suggested by Car.Mike, the ripper that now comes with anydvd shouldn't be necessary unless there are physical problems with the disk itself.

Update here;

I'm assuming the AnyDVD you were running wasn't the newest version. I just did Narnia the other day, and with the latest version of AnyDVD, I successfully backed it up--very easily I might add.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

i was able to backup narnia on an older AnyDVD.funny how it works on some and not others.has to be a random protection on some disks and not on others.

Managed to copy in the end using Car.Mikes idea of ripping to hard drive via Foxes head. Also managed to copy Movie only by re authoring
as normal in shrink, v.strange. Didnt notice any difference in quality in either disc.
