I've been using CloneDVD2 (version 2.8.9.2) and AnyDVD (version 5.9.5.6) and I haven't had any problems so far. I also noticed that DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 works very well with my AnyDVD. I notice a lot of people on here use DVD Shrink with AnyDVD. I'm just wondering which is better ? I thought CloneDVD2 should work better with AnyDVD since they're both from the same company. Does one encoding scheme work better with a higher percentage of DVD players ? So far I haven't had to install any other programs besides my updated CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD but I heard it's better to keep the options open. Is there a real difference ? Thanks.

sammychan ,
Welcome to the forum. Your question really depends on who answers the question as some will say why buy a program if a free one will do the movie and the quality is the same. Both are good programs so the answer is in the eyes of the beholder when you view the movie. Use whichever one you want to use. CloneDVD might be quicker but you can do more w/ Shrink( make still images of parts of the DVD). If you have CloneDVD then use that

What Clone will do that Shrink will not is reauthor and preserve your menu. When you reauthor in Shrink and do movie only you lose your menu. Unless you do it by inserting still images for what you are taking out. I prefer Clone for keeping my menu, and also if I split TV series disks, because of compression, I then have a menu on both disks. Just my two cents. It is all in what people prefer.

I have and use both. As others have stated, both are excellent and provide excellent results. I predominately us CloneDVD2 now as I like to preserve the menu's when reauthoring main movie only.

You will not loose by obtaining shrink. Get it here: http://mrbass.org/dvdshrink

Might as well, it's free.

i've got both programs too and i prefer CloneDVD because i like to keep the menus while editing out the previews and junk. CloneDVD is faster too.

I use CloneDVD2 almost exclusively now, but one thing I liked about Shrink was you could adjust your compression ratios. I would set a low ratio for the movie, and high compression for the rest of the disc.

I also think one could not go wrong with either program. What CloneDVD2 lacks in options it makes up for in speed. If you want the menus, use CloneDVD2. Happy burning.

If I can learn here so can you.

Thanks guys. I think I will continue to use my AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 because I like the menus. I only things I take out or the french / spanish movie audio in terms of US hollywood films. I downloaded the Shrink as well although I noticed the latest version of shrink (3.2.0.15) is almost two years old now whereas cloneDVD2 is only a couple of months old in it's latests version. Well I guess it's mostly AnyDVD doing the work anyways. Slysoft seems to be upgrading AnyDVD a lot. I just installed a newer version that just came out yesterday and before that was like less than a month ago. Anyways thanks guys. Also just to let you know, you can probably save a lot of money by buying the AnyDVD / CloneDVD2 licenses through eBay as I brought mine for both programs for only $6 and now have free upgrades for life because it's licensed.

If you got your keys on EBay, they are most likely pirated and may not work in future versions.

Just be aware, if you start to have problems, it's most likely the keys!

Thanks for the warning but I think I'm fine. I got the licenses a few days ago and installed AnyDVD. Then just yesterday a newer version of AnyDVD came out (Version 5.9.5.6) so I downloaded that from Slysoft, installed it on top, reset the computer and my AnyDVD was fine, licensed. I even cloned one of my existing DVDs I have here just to make sure hehe.

what noone seems to be saying in this thread is that for large amount of compression, old and little dvdshrink has clonedvd2 beaten. shrink is second to no transcoder when it comes to picture quality output. i prefer Recode2 because it outputs the same quality picture as shrink, only faster.
p:s: if the compression to apply isn't much, let's say under 20%, clonedvd2 is fine, but at 30%, 40%, i would go with shrink or Recode2.
yeah, yeah, i know Rebuilder is king but it takes with my system about 6 to 7 hours to encode a movie, and that is just way too long.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

Thanks for the tip. I used a bit of DVD Shrink today since I installed it last night. I notice when it comes time to backup your DVD, under the 'Video Quality setting' there are two options to help improve picture quality although it'll mean a good 1.5 hours to backup the dvd. I notice CloneDVD2 doesn't have these types of options. So in conclusion, am I correct in saying that if I use DVD Shrink with those Quality settings both selected, the picture quality will be better than anything CloneDVD2 can do ? The picture still seems to be good with CloneDVD2 at compression down to %60 though but to be fair, the picture is also good with DVD Shrink without those options at the same compression. Ahh I don't I guess they're both good but I'm just not sure if those Video Quality settings are ever worth it haha ?

Recently with CloneDVD2, I've been noticing some very grainy video output. Has anybody else experienced something like this? I don't get the same results with DVDShrink or Nero Recode.
