Please read carefully fimbo before attempting this

Load up boxplorer again

Scroll down to xboxdash.xbe on the C drive till it's highlighted
now press the clear white button on your xbox control pad

A menu should have now come up

Scroll down to Rename and press the green A button on the controller
Now press the UP button on the controller until the file name says yboxdash.xbe
when it says this press the start button

You should now see a screen with warning_warning_warning at the top of it
when you see this press the 2 back triggers on the xbox control pad

while holding the triggers press the start button
The screen should now say the file/folder was renamed succesfully

press the green A Button now

you should now be able to see that the C drive contains a file called yboxdash.xbe

Now Scroll down to evoxdash.xbe and press the clear white button on your xbox control pad again

a menu should come up again

scroll down to rename until it is highlighted
and press the Green A button on your controller

you should now see the filename evoxdash.xbe

press the UP button on the controller till the letter X comes up

when you have done this, press the right button on the controller until the letter V is highlighted
Now press the down button until the letter V turns into the letter b

The filename you can see on the screen should now say xboxdash.xbe

if this is correct

press the start button

you should now see the warning_warning_warning screen again

Press the 2 back triggers on the xbox control pad

while these are pressed, press the start button as well

You should now see at the top of the screen rename finished

now press the A button

You should now be able to see the C drive
and two .xbe files on their
named yboxdash.xbe and xboxdash.xbe

please confirm this is correct before switching off you xbox

thanks a million i really owe you one by the way do you think it was a game that cause the trouble and did it do it automaticcally or do you think the kids choose something they shouldnt have.

No the problem is if you load a game that supports xbox live and you click on the option to play online the game automatically upgrades your dashboard and replaces the xboxdash.xbe with one from microsoft

So when you tried to fix the xbox before by using e.g. slayers to install a dashboard instead of it overwriting xboxdash.xbe as it needed to, it adds the file evoxdash.xbe instead.
because normally all bioses on modchips will load that file first

Unfortunately, whoever chipped the xbox that you have has used a custom bios so that whenever the xbox boots up it looks for xboxdash.xbe, and if it finds it, it loads it first instead of evoxdash.xbe

Oh nearly forget when you get a chance to ftp into your xbox you will need to rename yboxdash.xbe to msxboxdash.xbe so that you can link to it through evox

ps. save this thread or the instuctions in case it ever occurs again

I totally forgot that one..must be nearly 4 years since I last saw that done!!
