Probably the best defense I can give about music downloading is that I simply can not afford to buy the cds. Yes I have the money to buy a few cds once a while, but that isn't nearly enough to keep me entertained. I absolutely love music and listen to it basically whenever I can. In order to have a legally obtained music collection that I could sit back and just enjoy, I would have to invest thousands of dollars into it. I'd rather spend the money on better audio equipment. Its one of those things where in theory yes it is wrong because we're stealing the music, but I seem to just not really care. Any other excuse for me would just be some attempt at trying to justify my actions.

Hi,
In my opinion there are rare instances that pirating certain songs should be permissable as they are not available through any other means. Remixes, live recordings, studio sessions for me would fall into that category. Mind you I am referring to singles not whole albums. The theory will always be (per todays' law) it is stealing and the artist/ record companies don't make money but on the other hand music today has generally deteriorated to the point where only 1-2 songs would actually get airplay/ generate a buzz to a point where I as the common consumer would purchase the entire cd to find those are the only songs that are worth the price. Also these compilations they are putting out these days of old works by artists are digitally remastered and the song kind of loses its original essence that initially grabbed my ear. Just my humble opinion.

Yeah I download but I support my artists. I hear at school ohh *blah blah blah* bands new CD is great. Well before I blow $15-$20 on the CD. I will download it and listen to it first. Then if I like it Ill buy the CD if not Ill just get rid of the song.
*downloading is no different then recording music from a streaming service!
