I have been backing up my movies for a couple of months now, but it seems my DVD Shrink is getting slower with every movie. I usually run my movie thru Shrink and then burn with DVD Decrypter....unless I have a problem, then I use VOB Blanker. I have noticed that when I use these other programs, it still doesn't make Shrink any faster. I have AnyDVD, DVDFab, etc....but when I use them they don't make Shrink faster. At first it only took 20-40 minutes to analyze the movie, now it takes 1-1 1/2 hours to do this and it doesn't matter if it is a new or old movie. This is of course, if I want the whole dvd....if I do the movie only and no special features---it takes anywhere from 15-45 minutes. But I like doing the whole dvd with the special features. Sorry this is so long...any ideas?
I'm having the same problem, after i start burning it says Time remaining: 58 MINS, now something is really wrong with that, as a few months ago it was taking around 10-15 MINS.
Try doing a defrag, virus scan and spyware scan of your system. Make sure you are not running virus sw and multitasking when encoding. Check and make sure your drives are in DMA mode.
I just finished burning a DVD. TOTAL TIME: 1hr 4 mins!!!
I'm now in the process of doing Spyware scan with Ad-Aware SE. Last time i did this i had about 21 critical objects, which i deleted. My Norton is out of date(my Anti Virus is expired)I don't really want to pay 70$ for AV. Do u no is AVG is any good?
DMA IS on(if available). there's also something i noticed. When i go to My Computer there's NO DVD drives. Just Two CD Drives, which is incorrect. I have an HP with a SuperMulti Drive, and a DVD ROM drive. That could be the problem right, it doesnt change when i turn off and on the comp.
When I Backup Dvd's I make sure everything running on my system is shut down.. as long as you have no icons down by your clock running you should be ok.. as for AVG I've been using AVG for years and I've never had a virus on my system .. and best of all it's FREE
1hr 4 mins now are you doing deep analysis? if you are then that's why it's so slow..
What is AVG? No, i do not run a deep analysis---I do the 2-3 minute thing on shrink. I do have anti-virus software that runs constantly (MacAfee?)....are you saying I should turn it off after I analyze so my encoding won't take so long? If that is the case, why did a month ago encoding a movie only took 25-35 minutes and now it take 1-1 1/2 hours. I have not done anything different. My anti-virus stuff has been running the whole time...I will try to defrag though and shut down the icons in my menu bar...any other suggestions?
AVG is a anti-virus program packman00 was asking about..
Yes you shouldn't multitask and you should shut down everything including your anti virus when backing up...
unless you have a super speedy computer with alot of memory if you try to multitask it's going to slow down the process so your DVD Backup Progs should be the only things running...
fastest way to backup a Dvd I've found is Anydvd & Clone Dvd 2
30 - 45 mins from encode to finished burnt DVD at 4x ( I like to burn slow)
depending on the amount of compression depends on the speed also.. the less work the encoder has to do the quicker you'll be done.
I have tried everything, it's not only shrink thats slow, but Decrypter also, im getting 1.6x READ speeds, for Decrypter, and Shrink. Can anyone give me any opinions. I have 3 GIGS of RAM.As i said before it only shows CD DRIVE on my computer.
