cj062373,
You can do the movies 2 ways.
1. Use DVDFAB Decrypter and rip to HD. Then use VobBlamker. Then use Shrink to compress the output files from VobBlanker. The guide below uses Recode and you can use Shrink instead
Alkohol's Guide:
http://www.k-probe.com/backup-newly-release-DVD-DVDFAB-Decrypter-...
2. Use AnyDVD- Newest version and rip the DVD to HD and then use Shrink to compress.
If you are still having problems then the DVD might be a bad mastering press and needs to be exchanged

I have the latest version (5.9.5.6) of AnyDVD and still had a different error. Can't remember what it said though, too much herbalism in school =). Seriously though, I'm DVDFab Expressing it as I type this (on another machines, silly people).
There's more than one way to Rip a cat.

hi, i have always came here to get very helpful info to help me burn movies, but never felt educated enough to post, but i do appreciate bunches. My prob is I also cannot successfully copy hostel. I have tried any dvd with DVD Decrypter and fab, the problem is i cannot shrink it enough. MY DVD Shrink hasnt worked in months, i load a movie in it, i can see the preview but when its time to either back up or reauthor, but then i get an error to come up saying "DVD shrink has encountered a problem and needs to close. we are sorry for the inconvenience." then I have the option of reporting the prob to microsoft. (which i never do)
I also tried opening the files with shrink after using fab or decrypter. same message occurs. This message has happened for months now, i uninstalled shrink and reinstalled, but same thing.
Is there any settings I may have wrong in shrink? or is there another way to shrink these files?
thanks so much!

kimanny,
Your problem w/ the movie is you forgot to use VobBlanker to correct the structure of the DVD files. Then you use Shrink. Or you can Rip the DVD using AnyDVD( click the fox head in the taskbar and go to "Rip DVD-Video to Harddisk").
You have to use VobBlankwer w/ DVDDecrypter or DVFAB Decrypter. AnyDVD has FixVTS whick is a less powerful version of VobBlanker but they do the same thing and this is why you have to rip it to HD

well your specs are great so you shouldn't have a problem there, on a sidenote I just used clonedvd2 and latest AnyDVD and no problem, but shrink did give me a error.

using latest DVDFab, it ran flawlessly. Although, a poo-poo phone call from work cut short my fun (work always seems to do that) so I didn't get a chance to get it from the HD back to disk.
Thanks for the information about AnyDVD. I was unaware that it did that!
I usually just Shrink + AnyDVD and if there's a problem, then I'll progress further down the road of VOB_Blanking and DVDFabXpressing.
Incidently, I've had 100% success rate with Memorex DVD-Rs (16x now, used to be 8x and before that, 4x) while burning at 2x. This gives me copies that work in two sony DVD players and 2 laptops. I usually wait until the big Box stores have the stack of 50's and 100's on sale to buy.
Please don't jinx my burns though, i'm low on chicken bones and voodoo spells =)

Just checking this thread as well. This is actually a very easy movie to copy. For those that don't have the latest versions of CloneDVD & AnyDVD, then get them. Backing up with Clone with AnyDVD running in the background is very easy to do. No need to waste your time trying all the free programs as this will just cause you needless frustration. They are well worth the price and the constant updates will keep you ready when the codes such as Sony Arrcos are updated.
If these 2 programs together don't work for you, then get the latest version of dvdfab decrypter to download the disc to your hard drive, and then use Nero to burn it. Again very easy to do. I personally don't like shrink and its no longer updated anyway, but if thats your choice, it too should work fine if you don't have Nero. Decrypter will remove the bad cells so no need to use VOB blanker, fixVTS or PGCedit unless you want to remove the warning screen and/or previews.

Yes, it is true that HOSTEL has the latest protections encrypted from Sony's ARccOS (puppet), it has some fake structural and fake pgc as well, but it simply is just another piece of cake.
As usual, DVDFAB Decrypter (FREE) + VobBlanker (FREE) is flawless and of course the rest is history. Easy as smokin' and sippin' on a Corona.
In summary:
DVDFAB Decrypter - 12 minutes to rip
VobBlanker - 5 minutes to process and blank out other craps (FBI Warnings, rating logos/screens, unwanted previews/trailers, etc.)
Best of lucks to all and happy burning.

guys, alkohol is the best when it comes to the freeware he can backup any movie out there with it. just follow his guide and your set.
your other option is using CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD (which i use) the lazy way i would say lol but works flawless also

hmmmm, the debate of freeware verses not-so-freeware rears its ugly head once again!
I've had 99% success rate with DVDshrink + AnyDVD. When that combination fails to work, I don't find it endlessly frustrated. I find it challenging.
maybe as the copy protection schemes improve and DVDShrink becomes less and less usable I'll look into a different, "first strike" software.
until then, i'm not rocking the boat =)
