Hi for awhile now I have used strictly DVD shrink to back up my movies and a lot of the time I have no trouble but lately some of the movies I'm doing are freezing during the movie and skipping. Is this a sign I should be using another program with DVD shrink ? It's pretty annoying. An example is the movie Cursed. It played fine for about 20 minutes then it just started skipping. Napoleon Dynamite was another. I would really appreciate any suggestions.

I just wanted to add that I also have DVD Decryptor. Would this help make more reliable copies ? I'm certain it's not a media issue, well pretty certain. I always use the same kind, DVD-R Imation. I also saw where someone said to use Analyze on DVD Shrink. Would that help ? Thanks again I just wanna get it right without starting to watch a movie and not noticing the problem until half way through the movie. Oh yeah and the original movies I'm using are in perfect shape so I'm sure that's not the issue either.

If DVD Shrink, or DVD Decrypter, is ripping your DVD without errors then thats a good thing. You don't need to look for better software to rip. Shrink and Decrypter do have problems with some of the newer movies with ARcoSS protection etc, but you'd notice that right off when they errored out trying to rip the DVD. So if you're ripping the DVD OK then that's half the battle.

The most common causes of playback problems from backed up DVD's are poor media and too high of a burning speed. Try different media, Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are good. Drop your burning speed to 4x. Make sure you have the latest firmware for your burner. Don't multi task while burning. Don't use labels on your DVD's. Turn off anti virus software when burning.

In regards to DVD Shrink and Deep Analysis, a lot depends on the compression that Shrink needs to use. After Shrink analyzes a movie, if the compression needed to fit it on 1 disc is below 80% then I always let Shrink do a Deep Analysis. This will really help reduce playback problems. Even with Deep Analysis, if the compression needed starts dropping below 60-70% I'd consider splitting the movie onto two discs to preserve quality.
