I need opinions/help. I have (had I guess) my PSP running 1.50 w/ homebrew and everything going fine. I'm not the best hacker but I have pretty good knowlege so everything I cam across I could deal with. Well, one day I decided to take a next step and mod some of the menus/other things built into the system. To be safe, I didn't mess around and I took a guide and program from a "pro" that claimed everything worked without bricking it (right...)

Well now it once in a while turns on with just the green light then turns off, but more then 3 quarters of the time it turns on w/ sounds and everything as usual then freezes in various parts (farthest I have ever come is I was able to move from the default cursor position to pics then it froze). Here's my questions about it, don't feel hasty to put my hopes down though...

1. It fully keeps the date and time perfect still, and right before it bricked I used a program that was to set everything to default. Well the backround is on the default "monthly" for the 1.50 (American btw) and it also changed it's backround from the normal March one to the new April one.

2. From what I understand (once again I'm not a pro so I could always be wrong) when you brick it it hardly comes on and you can not even get to the menu. Well read above on how far I came, and what else is going on. Pretty much what I'm trying to say is unless I'm mistaken a bricked PSP is fully inoperative and you wouldn't be able to get as far as I did with one.

3. I have tried everything else. Mem stick in, out, a diff stick, w/ USB (which obviously would never work anyways seeing that I can't get to the "USB Connection" on my PSP), without, charged, dying battery, plugged in, unplugged, switching on and off fast (didn't do too many times to avoid damage), letting it stay on while frozen (which it always auto shuts off after a little while, which may also be a good sign), you name it. Bottom line plz don't give me n00b questions, I'm not once again a vet hacker but I deff know alot of stuff and I've gone nuts trying to do everything in my power

4. I know you can buy another motherboard, but I am trying to keep that as my last resort seeing that I'm not in the position right now to throw $100 out the door :/

...with all that said, any ideas? Any creative feedback is great, even if you think it's useless I'm up for anything at this point. Thx for your time ^^

You right your psp is bricked when its rendered useless, which it seems like yours is, but most usually can't turn on as you've said. A very important question is, what program were you using and what exactly did you do?

Page Link - http://pspupdates.qj.net/index.php?&cid=58&p22=3 (it's in the middle of that page)

Download Link - http://dl.qj.net/FlashMod-v3.0-Preview-Gaming-Consoles-PSP-Homebr...

Last mod I did - Font Mod (and then I used this program to try to remove it all and it was bricked)

Thx for responding btw ^^

Anytime you mess around with your flash you run the chance of rendering your psp useless.
Are you able to navigate through the menu at all? Could you start flashmod back up?
Outta curiosity what was the sequence of events.

I can't go through the menu, the farthest I have gotten was moving the cursor 1 to the left from the default position before it froze. I wish I could get farther, but no such luck.

Sounds hard, Your psp is pretty much gone man, youve just stuffed the firmware up somehow.
Does it load the umd when you turn it on?

What im getting at is for you to upgrade using a umd to 2.0

If all else fails see if you can scroll to the network update option and maybe you can get new firmware that way
Note: This will give you the latest firmware

OMG IT ACTUALLY WORKED! Thx so much dude, I dunno why I didn't think of that. When I loaded a demo UMD it auto loaded it with no issues. Now I just need to buy a UMD w/ 2.00 so I can downgrade it to 1.50 later. Anyone know of any UMDs that have 2.00 loaded in them?

GTA:LCS does, but what version did you update to? It normally updates you to the latest version, so im not sure youll be able to go back to 1.5, unless you upgraded to 2.0
And you dont need a UMD to downgrade, you can go straight into it.

I know that, and I know how to downgrade. That's why I want to get 2.00 specifically, and I know you don't need a UMD to upgrade but the point is that I can't get to the network update in the main menu so I need to do this

btw - Does anyone know whether you can put your PSP on autoplay once it's connected to the computer via USB? Like, if you're in a UMD and you had it connected that you'd be able to access your PSP even though it's not in "USB Mode".

Also - Is anyone sure whether the PSP boots the game if it needs to be upgraded? Because if they want you to upgrade through the menu I may be screwed :(

yeh seems as though your screwed on that front>
your psp isnt bricked though - just slightly errr broken.

anyway - you say you can move it to the left once before it crashes right -
what happens if you insert a umd after you have switched it on. does it load

can you not move the one place down to update?

i believe there are homebrew apps that allow USB connections - but if you cant move your screen then you cant do that.

if you could just press down once without it crashing you'd be away

id swap him my 2.01 psp for his broken 1.5

id take the risk of it never working again

and jsut use it to play games

*if it were me id still try the update* if it crashes and bricks - then if sony asks he can say he used the update on a UMD - he had it all setup and everything then it just crashed.

but take your ms out when they come

you kno what,
like piece said your psp isnt bricked, but i dont think its broken either. if i recall correctly piece or someone said that they did something and the names of the icons in the xmb didn't show up. i was jus reading and found that ppl who messed with their fonts the wrong way caused conflicts in their shell menu, so im thinking the same happened to you. cause if it were bricked you wouldnt be able to do sh*t w/it.
im 99% what piece said should work
here are more 2.0 umds
Gretzky 06
Harry Potter
Kingdom Of Paradise
Legend of Heroes
Need for Speed: Most Wanted
Popolocrois
SSX On tour
Star Wars Battle Front II
The Con
Ultimate Block Party

I bought Gretsky, and this is my luck. As soon as I buy the damn thing, my PSP decides it'll turn on but it'll only show the green light and not load. So pretty much now I dunno what to do, maybe if I don't touch it for a few days and then try it again I'll get lucky but I doubt it :(

And about trading a possibly bricked 1.50 for a 2.01, I'd probably do it anyday. I'd rather have something that works then nothing ^^

It used to boot up, and show the screen, and depending it would show the menu (and once I got very lucky and I was able to move 1 over in the menu before it froze). But starting yesterday, for some reason now the thing turns on with the green light but no sound and nothing on the screen (the screen doesn't even light up). The last thing I did with it was load a Demo UMD that came with the PSP seeing that I didnt have any other UMDs, and I discovered that even though the firmware freezes it can load a UMD disc. Now suddenly it wont even do that :(

I dont think that the UMD could have completely bricked the thing but it seems like it. Any ideas/comments at this point?

so it stays on but you just cant see anything?
does the demo umd load anymore?
if the screen stays on, try loading the umd and even tho the screen is off, try updating the fw by pressing the right buttons.
