If you've already tried to uninstall shrink then reinstall, just to make sure there's nothing wrong with the program itself, then I would say it's a copy protection issue.
Shrink may not be able to backup your movie alone, it's going to need a little help. Download and install DVDFab decrypter, use it instead of shrink to rip the video files to your HDD. Once DVDFab is done, you can then open the files using DVD Shrink and proceed as usual using it.
To open the files created by DVDfab using shrink, just click on the open files tab and browse to where the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab is located and choose it.
I have dvd fab decrypter and I use that to decrypt the movie and then i go to DVD Shrink and try to back it up and it starts to do it and then it stops and gives me this message :dvd shrink encountered and error and cannot continue programming error exeception occured. What does that mean and how do i fix it????
If shrink still produces an error when trying to open the files created by DVDFab, then you'll need to process them thru vobblanker first then open the newly created files using DVD Shrink.
Note: When you load the VIDEO_TS.IFO file created by DVDFab, click on the Proc. All button on the right side of vobblanker's window to make sure all the video title sets (VTS_**) get processed before you PROCESS the video files.
Vobblanker will create a new set of files and put them on your HDD to the location you specified. I suggest you create a new folder on your desktop and call it the name of the movie, create another folder with in that one and name it VIDEO_TS, this is where you will direct vobblanker to output the files to.
