I just installed a new Samsung SH-W162Z OEM burner. Now shring does not recognize my burner. Only my hard disc drive shows up when I am to select a backup target. Is there something I'm missing here? There was no problem with my old drive.(NEC) I tried flashing the firmware in my new drive w/ the latest firmware with no success. Anyone know a fix for this?? any info would be very much appreciated ;-)

Try creating an ISO file and then burn that file with ImgBurn.

Make sure that the cables are installed properly on the drive and fully seated. When you go into device manager does the drive show up as working properly?

You can uninstall the drive in device manager and then shut down the computer and reboot so that windows will reinstall it.

Give that a try. Possibly get new cable for the drive. Sometimes when you remove a cable from a drive you loose a contact (one pulls free) and the cable fails.

I'm actually not have a problem with the burner itself. It will burn cd's/dvd's using Nero. There's no problem with windows recognizing the drive, only using shrink. When selecting a backup target, it's just not there??

Try uninstalling DVDshrink, then run a registry cleaner like the very good ccleaner found here, just run it's registry cleaner app;
Note: Choose the center download with no tool bar option

Reinstall DVD shrink and try it again, you can get a fresh download here;

Update: I installed the latest supplement of Nero, & now my drive is recognized in the back-up target menu ;-) Apperently my new DVD burner was not recognized by the earlier version of Nero. Thanks everyone for your input posted here., I'm now up & running.
