I have been having problems burning DVD's with DVD Shrink. It cannot start Disk-at-once when it gets to the burn process. Is this a problem with Nero or DVD Shrink? I have tried two brands of DVD's, Sony and Fuji. It has never done this with my Sony DVD's in the past, or any other DVD. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks! Here is the log from my last burn:

Your NEC 6500 firmware is not up to date. The most recent is 2.24 and is available here:

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1920

I don't think your burner cares much for your media. Try Taiyo Tuden Verbatim, or Made in Japan labeled Sony or Fuji disks.

Also, try having Shrink output an ISO image file and then burn that with DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn. If that works the problem lies within Nero.

http://www.imgburn.com
DVD Decrypter: http://www.riphelp.com/downloads/dvddec.html

Laptop burners are not as robust as regular half-height burners. They present more challenges. :)

I have never had any problem coping or burning a movie. I use dvdfabdecrypter always the latest version to decrypt then I use DVD Shrink to shrink it and when I burn I do not burn from shrink. I use a program called CopyToDVD. Just click on the file, it asks you if you want to burn it as a video or data, pick the one you want and click ok. It will burn it to any dvd burner. I have Nero and it's a pain in the ass. I never use it. I burn everything with CopyToDVD.

I too have a similar issue with the same NEC not being able to successfully burn a DVD-R using shrink and Nero 7.

I use to use shrink and DVD Decrypter and DVD+R successfully, but this time i purchased a stack of DVD-R discs.

Help would be greatly appreciated as i've got limited experience in this feild.

The first thing i saw in your log points to a System ASPI problem.
Quote:
WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=?.?.?.?,
That single problem right there will stop your burning dead in its tracks. An XP system like yours, can work with NO system ASPI, or a good one, but, not with a corrupted one. If it does work, you will see strange things, like being able to burn a cd but not a dvd, or the other way around.
Run nero info tool and click on the ASPI tab. It should come back all green:

So here is the easy fix for that if Nero reports your system ASPI is corrupted.
You need do download a file, and copy it to your correct nero folder, and that should fix the ASPI problem. First download this file and save it to a normal area where you save downloads or, to your desktop if you like having it there. We are going to do a copy/paste so you can have this file later also.
Here is the file you need to dl from nero: http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/WNASPI32.DLL.html
Take the dowloaded file and do a right click, and select COPY
Then go to this location and do a PASTE:
C:\Program Files\Nero\Nero 7\Core\Wnaspi32.dll
If it says file already exists, choose to overwrite it and then reboot your system for this to really replace the corrupted one.

You can run Nero's InfoTool to see if it fixed it.
Once that is fixed, we can address other issues, but get that problem fixed first. Try burning after that fix, and that may be all you need to do, but i suggest you try the following suggestions, if you still have problems after fixing ASPI.
Quote:
Disc Manufacturer: SONY16 - D1
If you can find Sony discs with Made in Japan on the spindle, you will have so Taiyo Yudens. Those are the best. Your burner didnt like that media.
Quote:
9:35:01 PM #27 CDR -1046 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1799
Illegal disc
You can also find Tys under Maxell and Fuji brand also if MIJ is on the spindle. Verbatims and ritek are also good media.
Your version of Nero could be updated to this non-buggy version 7.0.8.2:
http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845
Write down your serial numbers and then run the cleantool
http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/General_CleanTool.html
Then install the version listed.

Post another burn log, the last one, if you still have problems, and we will work on what is left to fix. I see a couple more minor things, but this should give you something to work on for now. That, and i have to get back to work. :)

Tis definately corrupt, unless you are very handy with photoshop. My only thought is that your system is using Nero's ASPI with no ill effects. Lucky you.

If you want to correct your system's aspi drivers, download and install the system drivers found here. Follow the instructions for the install, then use nero's info tool to check if all is well.

When you use Nero apps, you are using Nero's ASPI so there isnt a problem. But, you could fix your system aspi by doing the same fix i showed JA04STi . I personally dont like to see a corrupt aspi as it is a very important part of the whole burn process. Sometimes you hear the term ASPI Layers also. I have a link that tells much about aspi, but we dont need to know all this to fix the problem.
Sorry it took me awhile to get back to this, but i was working.
Here is the aspi discussion link:
http://www.ncf.carleton.ca/~aa571/aspi.htm

The problem with using force aspi and the other methods, is sometimes the new aspi is not the same one being replaced, and the old aspi should really be removed completely by using killaspi or something like that .
If you copy a good version on to the same file that is corrupt, it seems to work and you dont go thru all the other things, like installing the wrong aspi for your windows version.
Your system aspi is winaspi32.dll version 4.71 July 17, 2002
and your nero aspi is
winaspi32.dll version 2.0.1.74 October 26, 2004
same file name, different program supplies it. System aspi file is corrupt and anything trying to use it will probably fail to burn properly. Nero suppies its own non-corrupt exact same file and everything works. Clear as mud??

On one infotool you have the pulldown for system aspi, on the other it is for Nero aspi, and that is why it shows green, neros is fine, your system aspi is corrupt.

You dont need to post a log guyrus, just post a screenshot of infotools showing green :) and we will know you have it fixed. Its not giving you a problem because of the nero aspi, and many other programs have their own aspi to handle the burn process.

A big thanks to Maxburn!!

I followed all your instructions (eg using Nero Clean, reinstalled with Nero 7.0.8.2 and uploading Nero winaspi32.dll) but still couldn't replace my system ASPI with non-corrupted files from adeptac. But my Nero ASPI was now ok.

So i tried to burn using my original Sony DVD-R disks but the same error: Illegal disk.

After checking my system ASPI files using adeptac checker, this indicated my system ASPI files were fine and working which contracted Nero infortool output.

So my last resort was changing media. I went and purchased a different brand from my Sony DVD-R to TDK DVD-R and TDK DVD+RW disks and everything worked fine on both formats.

In summary, I'm not sure what the main priniicple fix was, but suspect the media brand played a big part.

Thanks again.

@JA04STi
The main thing is that we get you burning again. What exactly that fixes it, doesnt matter to me. I have a range of things i suggest based upon what i see in a log. Good media, and up2date firmware, are very important. I know for sure Taiyo Yuden makes good media, so when we see "illegal disc" or any of the other media pointing errors, Tys and Verbs are the main ones i suggest using. If errors still occur, then i, and others, can look at something else. ASPI problems can be a major error, that will stop burning dead in its tracks. If you have XP or higher operating system, aspi is not supposed to be needed. But, i think if some program trys to use an ASPI that is corrupt, instead of its own aspi, you will get burn failures, or weird things. My buddy had a corrupt system aspi that would let him burn DVDs, but not CDs. Once we fixed his corrupt file by installing a new copy of his aspi, everything worked fine.
I used to suggest going the forceaspi, or another aspi program, but many ppl would get corrupt aspi, or wrong aspi installed, and it was always a mess. It either worked fine, (luck or karma on yourside) or there was a long, complicated, method to bring it back. Using the install new file over old method, seems to work, and is fairly easy to do. I cant take credit for thinking of fixing it that way, but i learned it here, and use it now in my troubleshooting bag of tricks.
Besides using Neros Info Tool, the aspi checker program from adaptec is another good checker:
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/driverdetail.jsp?sess=no...

I am glad the TDKs worked for you, but they are not good media. If they work, consider yourself lucky. I bet you can find some Ty media if you find MIJ on the spindle on the brands i suggested before (Sony, Maxell, Fuji). My buddy insists on using the cheapest media, and burning at 8x-16x. For an extra 5 to 10 cents a disc, i get Tys or Verbs. The fastest i burn is 8x, and most of the time i am burning at 6x. I am happy with the results of my burning. Media is one of the easiest things to switch when you get errors in burning. Find the discs/speed your burner/system likes. I suggest 4x-8x range of burn speeds to get the best quality output. Online media:

Nero will identify the manufacture of your discs and so will another free program:

Hows the ASPI situation going? Any luck?
