I've been reading your posts for the last couple of days and trying to get my DVD Shrink and Nero combo working again. I did the same as several others from what I've read and upgraded Nero then everything went bonkers. After trouble shooting with everyones suggestions I have uninstalled everything, ran the Nero clean tool and reinstalled everything. now I am still getting an error. the last log is

DVD Shrink does not have its own burner, it needs either Nero or DVDD to auto-burn the iso created.

@t5874m0

This is probably a dumb question, but is "burn with Nero" (or something to that effect) checked in your options screen? Small problem I know, but it's been overlooked in the past.

@ebega

Burn with Nero is checked. It looks as though it starts the burn, even burn marks on the DVD when I inspected it, but it does not finish and ejects the DVD with the error above.

I'm not great at troubleshooting through logs (mainly cause I start to get confused pretty quickly..lol), but are you getting these messages only when you auto-burn with Shrink/Nero? Can you just create the iso with Shrink, then manually open Nero and burn the iso in this manner and get a successful burn?

Here's some suggestions:
Quote:
Recorder: <HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4081B Version: A100
Your firmware is a bit behind - the latest is A106.
Here's a link:

Disc Manufacturer: RITEKG - 05
Okay discs - if the firmware update doesn't help try some better ones like Verbatim or made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell.
Quote:
No seek complete
Some reasons for this error are:
Firmware not update
Poor media
Lens on drive needs cleaning

Since this is an older drive you might want to also try a lens cleaner.
Let us know how it turns out.

@Binkie thanks for the info, the update worked great but I was still getting errors. I was playing in Nero and found the test drive. I tested the disc was using and it crashed, tried another and the same thing but different error. Took one I had burned earlier and had worked. Did a scan disc and the first three sectors showed bad. That was far enough so I stopped it and I tried 6 discs in the 100 pack that I bought before I found one that worked. The burn completed successfully!!!! :-) It was obviously the media, therefore tomorrow they will be going back and exchanged for something different. LG recommends Taiyo Yuden, or Maxell for DVD+R and FujiFilm, Maxell or TDK for DVD-R in the owners manual for the GSA-4081B. QUESTION: what is your recommendation taking into consideration what the manufacturer recommends? (I realize that the info from an owners manual is likely dated). The other thing, I've asked several people at several stores and have not received a straight answer on is "what is the difference between DVD-R and DVD+R and which do you recommend?

@t5874m0
Since your drive doesn't support booktyping (making the disc appear to be a dvd-rom - almost universally compatible) I would go with the -R unless the dvd player they will be played on plays both formats. If if plays both than either is fine.
There has been much discussion on aD on the difference between -r/+r.
+R is said to be 'better' and can be booktyped (-R can't be booktyped)
I use both formats. For the whole scoop check out this link:
http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/113

Now for the media - look for Made in Japan with the exception of Verbatim. In store the made in Japan Fuji or Sony will usually id as being made by Taiyo Yuden. Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are some of the best out there when it comes to compatibilty, very low burn failures and longevity.
I'd pass on the TDK.
If your in the us http://supermediastore.com has great sales on Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.
Let us know how it turns out - good, bad or otherwise!
