I just started getting the error power calibration when i try to use my shrink- before i waz not having any problems I have a nec firmware 1300a 1.0b dvd burner. can someone tell me where to go to get free firmware i have removed the nero and the shrink and put back on and cleaned the drive can anyone please help me? thanks a million

Go into task manager and kill all unneccesary processes. The only time I have ever received power calibration errors is when a power hog process was running in the background.

Cbrwn,
There are quite a few things that can cause this, but lets start with the basics and see if helps.

1)Firmware out of date

2)Media. The brand of media you use makes a big difference, so stick to good quality stuff like verbatim or sony or TY's.

3)Burn speed. Burn your backups at no greater than 1/2 the rated speed of the media you use.

Also, FireKat's suggestion should be considered as well.
