I used to be able to burn dvds without any problems. Then, while burning with Shrink, my computer started getting all of these error messages and wouldn't burn anymore. I used to use a combination of DVDFab Decrypter and DVD Shrink. Uninstalled and reinstalled these programs multiple times. Then switched over to DVD Decrypter. Still wouldn't work. I tried many solutions posted in forums but none worked. I then figured it was the actual drive. Bought a brand new drive. Just tried to burn a DVD--I'm pretty sure Shrink got all the way through the encoding process, then once it started to burn I got an error AGAIN. This is what it said:

Not sure if this has anything to do with the burning problem, but when I put DVDs into the drive (both in the new and old one), the computer doesn't seem to recognize them anymore. If I open My Computer, the E: drive icon does not say the name of the movie. It will not start playing automatically--the only way I can get it to work is if I open a player first and go from there. If anyone can help me solve this problem for good, I will be eternally greatful. HELP!!!!!!!!

FunERay85,
Welcome to the forum. You need to update to the version below and go no higher.

Nero version 6.6.0.18 updates:

Package 1
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe

Package 2
http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe

Does Device Manager give you any Yellow flags?

Can you post the whole log file as the one above is not the whole log?

What is the blank media used?

As it is late here I'll look at this in the a.m.

Hello,

I installed those two Nero updates. Tried burning a dvd with DVD Decrypter and Shrink yet again. This time I thought it was fixed. It decrypted fine and was 80-ish% through the burning process in Shrink when an error came up. No yellow flags in the device manager. I use Verbatim DVD+R's (which had been working perfectly until about a month ago when these problems started). Today, I also updated the drivers by downloading an update from the HP web site and following those directions. As far as I can tell, that did not do anything. Here is the error log from Shrink.

FunERay85,
Below are the errors that you still have.

1. 4:44:38 PM #21 SCSI -1066 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1182

TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND)

You are still having a conflict w/ the burner and the computer. Are there any yellow flags in Device Manager?

What program did you use to rip the DVD to HD as there is an error in the rip.

Definitely no yellow flags. I am using DVD Decrypter to rip to the hard drive. Should I try switching back to DVDFab Decrypter?

FunERay85,
I would use DVDFAB Decrypter as DVDD will not be updated any more.

Below is a guide for doing the newer movies:

Alkohol's guide and you can sub Shrink for Recode if you wish:

http://www.k-probe.com/backup-newly-release-DVD-DVDFAB-Decrypter-...

Or you can use AnyDVD"s ripper (newest version) to rip the DVD to HD and then Process accordingly

I uninstalled DVDD and downloaded DVDFab decrypter. Decrypted a DVD, went to Shrink to burn. Came up with this error while it was encoding: "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Failed to read file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\DVD\Video_TS\VTS_01_3.VOB.' Data error (cyclic redundancy check)."

I have read online that a cyclic redundancy check means that there is something wrong with the dvd, like a scratch. However, I have gotten these messages in the past and there are no problems with the DVDs I am using. This message has come up in the past on different occasions, with different DVDs.

I actually have been witnessing the same problem as Fun. For a while I had no problem burning DVDs, first using DVDFab Express and then DVD shrink. I accidently uninstalled my old DVDFab Express and had to download the entire new version of it. However, I found that the VIDEO_TS files it decrypted was no longer readable by DVD Shrink. Any help or assitance would be greatly appreciated.

FunERay85 ,
If you used the guide then the next step after ripping is to use VobBlanker to clean up the structural errors that are put there on purpose by the studios. That step should clean up the error code in Shrink. When you get that error code it means that there are scratches, Bad Press or the newer encryption structural problems the studios add to the DVD on purpose. VobBlanker should clean them up

Car.Mike, I actually think my problem is a bit different than Fun's problem. Maybe I just need some tips or etc, first off I usually have no problem backing a DVD onto my HD with DVD Shrink.(I would then burn the DVD with another software). This has worked well for me, however recently I've been encountering messages such as Invalid Navigation Structure. When I encountered this I then proceed to use DVDFab Express to decrypt the DVD for me, and then use DVD Shrink to shrink the files to a 4.6gig file so I can then burn it.

My problem only started two weeks ago, Stupid me accidently uninstalled DVDFab Express. So I had to download the new version of DVDFab Express, not only does it tell me I have only a 30day trial which this never happened to me before. Now when I decrypt and back the DVD onto my Harddrive, and try to use DVD Shrink to Shrink it. It won't let me and says it's unrecognizable, even though I've been following the same steps as I did before.

DVDFAB Express includes DVDFAB Decrypter to rip the DVD to HD. All you should do w/ that program is copy the DVD. That error though has been talked about extensively at the Shrink site and the error is caused by the newer encryptions w/ the structure problems

You should be able to e-mail them and get re-activated. I am not sure if Express can handle the structural problems but the workaround is either FixVTS or VobBlanker or purchase AnyDVD( rip the DVD to HD as it now includes FixVTS)

You can get DVDFAB Decrypter here as it is free:

http://www.dvdidle.com/free.htm

VobBlanker is also free: http://jsoto.posunplugged.com/vobblanker.htm

Alkohol's guide on hopw to use the above programs and you can sub Shrink for Recode if you wish:

Car.Mike,

I downloaded and installed the VobBlanker and was finally able to burn a dvd again!! I don't mean to be picky, because I am THRILLED with these results, but I just had one other question. The computer is still having a problem recognizing DVDs when I insert them into the drive. It won't play them automatically, and the E: icon in My Computer does not say the name of the movie--I can only get a movie to play if I open a player and go from there. Any ideas?

Thanks again soooooo much for your help!

FunERay85,
Try and see if this is checked. Go to Start>My Computer>then right on the burner> Go to Properities> AutoPlay. When you click on DVD Movies what is the setting. Does it say "prompt me each time" or Is the check mark in "Select an action to perform". I keep mine on prompt me each time.

If the DVD Movie has a label burned into the lead-in it should replicate what is on the label when you view the DVD burner in My Computer

For the Auto-Play, I also have it checked to prompt me each time a disc is inserted. The DVD movie labels used to always show up on the icon in My Computer, but recently they have just stopped.
