I've been using dvd shrink for years and I always have one problem that i could never figure out. Sometimes when i choose only to rip the ac3 5.1 sound and i playback the vob files on powerDVD afterwards, I can't hear anything but then when i burn the movie on to dvd and play it on my TV, the sound is fine.

This issue in turn is effecting my conversions of the vob files in to Xvid format. All the vob movies that have no sound during playback on my computer are also the movies that have no sound when i convert them into Xvid.

Anyone have a clue what's going on?

Sounds like your missing codecs.sometimes power dvd will run the film but if it is missing codecs the sound will be either very low or not there at all.http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Matroska_Pack.htm. try this link & download this codec pack.it should solve the problem.if not let me know & i'll try to figure it out for you.

I installed the matroska pack but it still didn't work. I still have no sound when i convert to XviD. The VOB file plays fine on powerdvd, though.

How does it play on media player? The reason I ask is because I had problems with PowerDVD on XP. I now use Nero to view my DVD's. I am not sure if there is an update or not, but it could be that PowerDVD is the justified case with your sound problem. How does it play on a stand alone DVD player?

My main problem now is not powerdvd. When i convert the VOB files to XviD and play it with media player, it is silent or the sound is very faint. It doesn't happen to all the movies i rip but just a select few.
