ive been usin shrink for yrs now n ive just installed it onto my friends computer however it wont work it will analyze the dvd, however wen i click backup no matter if its reauthered or a full backup it wont work dvd shrink freezes for a second then crashes i have tried many a different movie n uninstalled n re installed numerous times. any help will be much appreciated.
DVD shrink is no longer updated so it can't backup/decrypter any new movie releases protected by Sony's ARccOS or Macrovision's RipGuard copy protection. To get around this, try using a free ripper/decrypter called DVDFab decrypter, you can get it here;
http://209.172.35.173/download/DVDFabDecrypter29.exe
You can use the well supported and update DVDFab to rip the video files to your hard drive (DVDFab is a whole movie ripper, so you're getting the disk's entire contents ripped to the hard drive to a VIDEO_TS folder). Here's a guide on use if needed;
http://www.dvdshrink.info/dvdfab_decrypter.php
Once DVDFab is done, run shrink and open the files located in the VIDEO_TS folder created by DVDFab (use the open files tab in shrink), shrink should import/analyze the files, once the files have been opened, you can then use shrink as you normally would to create a backup (I suggest you reauthor to backup just the main movie and 5.1 AC3 english audio channel).
DVDFab is not just good for newer DVD releases protected/encrypted by sony or Macrovision, it a hell of a ripper that will help with problematic DVDs. If you want to keep it free, when shrink or DVD decrypter can't get the job done (reguardless of whether the DVD is new or old), DVDFab will usually come through for you.
For older DVDs, I'd recommend first trying DVD decrypter.
Note: Make sure the disk is clean and not badly scratched.
Rip the DVD in File Mode (using DVD decrypter) to your HDD, ripping All Files. Open the DVD video files ripped by dvd decrypter with DVD Shrink by clicking Open Files (Ctrl-O).
What is the target option for DVD Shrink?
ISO Image File?
Burn with Nero?
ISO Image File and Burn with DVD Decrypter?
Hard Disk Folder?
Is Roxio installed? If so, this likely needs to ne uninstalled if Nero is also installed. You will also need to run the Roxio Zapper.
Is Nero InCD installed? If so, uninstall and run the Nero InCD Clean Tool available the Nero site.
If you have Nero installed, what version is it?
If you have Nero installed, uncheck the "Burn with Nero" option on the I/O tab in Preferences.
What IDE controller is the burner on? primary or secondary?
What other devices are on the same controller.
Is the burner set to "master" or "slave"
Is there another hard drive available? If so, try saving to that drive.
You might also try Nero Recode, part of the Nero suite of programs. It was written by the same person that wrote Shrink. If that works, then it is a Shrink related problem for sure.
The bad news is that this problem sometimes does not resolve until you reformat your HDD.
the problem isnt the burnin software it is DVD Shrink it will analyze the movie allow u to reauthor it (its being backed up to the hdd) however wen u click on the backup button to back it up onto the hdd it will sit there for a second nothin comes up the usual screen that comes up after pressin the backup button which shows the progression and the movie it self doesnt appear at all it just sitd there for a second and then dvdshrink crashes and it doesnt matter how old or new the dvd is
@sheldo1
If you have Nero, and can post a burn log, it will tell us if you have any conflicts going on.
Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt
Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt
These things record all burns, and we only need the last one. The burns are seperated by something like this:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
====== *** NeroAPI, History File *** ======
Windows XP 5.1
IA32-xxxx-xxxx-
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
that was from a Nero 6 log, but 7 looks much like that. Underneath the divider is the operating system, and right below that is the begining of the serial number. When posting a log, just include the last burn log, and be sure to edit out your serial numbers by typing xxxx over them, or deleting them before posting to the forum.
all is well i fixed the problem there was a problem with the version of Nero on the computer conflicting with the dvd drive so i installed nero7 ultimate n all is now well thnx for the help
