I say try to grab the 8x if you can find them since those are RITEKG05. I haven't tried the 16x yet so I didn't know their media code and how they are, but they may be good too. The store I went to had both 8x and 16x. Like you said they are pretty much at least worth a try at $.20 a disc.

My Nec Drive likes the R05's just a tad bit better than my LG. Gonna get a new Benq with solid burn to replace the LG cause it doesn't work with Nero Disc Quality. any way here is a few scans to compare
First Scan (old) Phillips CMC-MAG (Burned with NEC ND3540A)
Second Scan RitekR05 (Burned with LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B DL12)
Third Scan RitekR05 (Burned with Burned with NEC ND3540A
Fourth Scan RitekR05 (Burned with LG HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4167B DL12)

My nearest OD-over an hour away, only had the 16x speed.
Mine coded as Ritek-P16. I picked up 5 of those 100 pk spindles. These 20 cent OD sales only come once in a blue moon.
My 8x and 12x scans are looking great. I'm getting between a 97 and 98 score with my benq 1620.
Not so great with my 1650,until soldburn gets to know them a little better.

My OD had both 16x and several platters of 8x behind them so I picked up one of the 8x platters. When I brought it home, I checked the media and it came up as 03's capable of up to 8X. Are 03's as good as 05's?

Allegro1.. My uderstanding is that the 03's are the DVD+R 's and the O5's are DVD-R's Having used both I say that it depends if you like using DVD+R or DVD-R The plus R's will allow you to booktype assuming that your burner permits booktyping ! which may or may not be important to you ! To me atleast they are about what and what having used both . I don't do scans If my media gives me a good burn of my dvd without any obvious media induced pertubations I'm happy ! If your going to booktype then DVD+R's are what you want ! Otherwise ir boils down to what your burners like better or what your store has on hand ! Online prices of DVD+R media are often higher than DVD-R media something to consider ! buying branded media from your local retailer the prices for equal amounts of DVD+R or DVD-R should be the same !Now that I've suitably confused you ! Hope this helped Good Luck & happy burning !

Oh no, not confused at all. I usually buy a 50/50 mix of -R's and +R's. I used to buy all -R's because of their inherent comptibilty with most non-burning players, but have been slowly moving toward +R's for its ability to booktype. So far, I've found that my burners (2 NEC's and 2 Lite-on's) have good success with either type of media in all my players. It might be because both the burners and players are fairly new that there aren't many problems any more.
I guess I'll go back and buy some more. Thanks for the information!

Quote: Are 03's as good as 05's?
Nope, they are better! Ritek-R03 are the +8x speed. Maxell uses them on their +8x taiwanese maxells. Office depot +8x Ritek-R03 is 20 cents. Maxell Ritek-R03 is 30 cents each, when on sale. Which ones you think I'd buy?
Ritek-R03: Excellent, high quality media. For all 4 of my benqs, these perform as flawless as any of my tys, verbatims, and hitachi media.
Ritek-G05: A lot more negative posts about that media. Movies27 burned a ton of them and loves them. A lot of other peeps had the opposite results. That negativity also shows up at cdfreaks.com
I wish they had the +8x at the OD that I went to monday. They had 15 spindles and all 16x. I picked up 5 of them.

I saw a pic of someone at cdfreaks.com with the Office Depot +16x with the MID code of Ritek-R05 and a pic of their scan got a 0. That is one unhappy camper. LOL
The Ritek-P16 seems to be pretty decent. I won't go over 12x though, but the 8x and 12x scans are very close.

@Allegro, whereever you found your Ritek G-03's, must not be a lot of AD readers present, I would keep the location secret unless you want the little green guy and myself cleaning out your OD, haven't seen them in my neck of the woods in ages.

Just rifled thru 30 bundles or so of Sony 16X and 8Xs +Rs at Sams. Managed to find 2 batches of 8X+R of the MIJ variety (white octagonal spacer). They code out as TY 000-T02s. I had bought a batch last week there. Most were MIT 16X discs. A 50+25 bundle (75) for $25 for genuine Taiyo Yudens. Glad they still had a few left. $.33 a disc not too bad for the real deal.

Found a spindle of OD 4x DVD+ today, deep blueish purpleish dye. I think they are RO2 ? How are these working and holding up since they are probably over a year old sitting on the shelf.
