Hello,

I have some .AVI's from movies my friends make and stuff like that when i convert them with ConvertXtoDVD, they usually turn out to be like 4.2 gig, i was just wondering if i use DVD Shrink will that make them loose quality?

And 2nd, if it does make it loose quality is it possible to turn it into an iso without losing quality?

Thanks!

The only time there is a loss of quality from using DVD Shrink is when the total video file size exceeds the capacity of the DVD. Shrink will then analyze and remove info (usually at the edges of frames first) to decrease total file size. This is termed compression by Shrink. If no compression is required there is no loss of quality. If only a little compression is required, it will be hard to tell the difference between the original and the "shrunk" version.

When video is in AVI or DivX format, it has already lost some of its quality as compared to the original. It will not be as sharp and clear as an original DVD for example.

Creating an ISO has no effect on quality. DVDs can either be burned from a DVD compliant VIDEO_TS folder containing the video files or from an ISO image file which is essentially a bit by bit representation of the burned DVD. A burning program has to take the files in the VIDEO_TS folder and construct an image from them anyway to burn the disk. Some programs only accept an ISO image files as inputs while others accept either.

oh i see, thanks :D

1 question, do you suggest backing up to an ISO then burning first would be better? because that takes a bit longer and uses up space i dont have... Is there a good program that can just burn with the video_ts and audio_ts folders but does the same effect as DVD Decrypter.

Nero, but it's a commercial program. There is a free trial available. Honestly, Nero can be problematic especially if you have limited disk space. Use DVD Shrink and when you click Backup!, select the "Create ISO image file and burn with DVD Decrypter" option under the Target DVD output dropdown menu.

Edit: Add link to Nero software: http://www.nero.com

yea, i've used Nero, but like you said it causes too much problems. It slows my computer too much aswell.

ConvertXtoDVD has a burning process too, do you know if that's any good?

thanks
