Alright guys I'm new to the forums, and I'm prepared to be flamed for the following post. I'll provide as much information as I possibly can. The problem that I'm having is DVD Shrink won't recognize the files I'm trying to open. Here's the entire process...

-After downloading a movie via bittorrent (Failure to Launch 1.39gb)
-Extract file using WinRar (resulting into a .avi format/699mb)
-Convert .avi file into dvd compilation using WinAvi
-File is now larger than the amount a disc can hold (5.69gb)
-Open DVD Shrink locate file, nothing there!

I don't know what the problem is, i've reinstalled dvd shrink and the same problem occurs! Sorry for the "newbness" you guys were the my last resort please help!

When using WinAVI, select the Advanced button (next to the target type). Select the DVD tab. Look for the Output Settings area (top left). Select Constant Video Size, set the Disk Capacity area to 4300/4360. The resulting file will fit onto a single layer disc without having to use DVD Shrink.

Aha! thanks. Its working great now, I've burned a couple of movies since then, and only one has came out great. All the others have a lot of skips in them. I checked on DVDInfoPro>PI/PIF test and all the others were around 50% what can I do to improve this into the 90's? or what other advice can you give to improve burning at all? I exit out of all my owner tasks in the task manager. I turn off my firewall, and other things in the background to prevent disrupting it!

What media are you using? What speed are you burning at? What program are you using to burn with?

Rule of thumb is to burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the disc.

Some of the Nero version 7 releases have been full of bugs. The only stable one is 7.0.8.2 Check to see if that is the version you have.

Can you post a Nero burn log? It will answer the following questions:
What is the make/model number of your burner? Is the firmware up-to-date? Are all your drives set to DMA?

Dolphin, I'm completely lost about the firmware updates. I went to "The Firmware Page" looked up my DVDRW drive, and there are TS00-TS13 and a few others. So I guessed probably need the first one then the rest right? well I d/led the first one its a .bin file, and I don't know what to do with it. As for the rest of your question my drives are set to DMA, and the model/name is Samsung TS-H552B. And here I believe is the burn log...

To run the firmware update, you'll need to do it from a Command Line. If you need help, post back and I'll give you directions.

The discs are good ones. Keep using them!

@Dolphin, yes I'll need instructions. I've searched, and it seems all the posts that I do find are for ones that are already experienced with updating it. BTW, 9 out of 10 DVD-R backups have been successful with burn speed of 8X. The two that were not are Fight Club, and Lucky Number Slevin (plays great, no audio on dvd player. On computer plays audio and video?)

@Noqoilpi, thanks for the tip being new here your bound to make some crazy responses!

The latest firmware update for your burner is GA05. I had a little bit of a hard time finding it. If you PM me your email address, I'll send it to you. It's a self-extracting zip file with directions included.

I've gone over your Nero log and noted several things. Please fix them.

Nero Version: 7.2.0.3
The version your using is "buggy". I suggest you uninstall it, use the Nero clean tool, and then install 7.0.8.2 That is the most stable version of Nero 7 released to date. I can give you links if needed.

Physical memory : 959MB (982512kB)
Free physical memory: 338MB (346512kB)
Memory in use : 64 %

Memory usage is high for burning. Close down all unnessary programs (ie anti-virus, spyware, etc) while burning. Disconnect from the Internet. Do not multi-task while burning.

You might want to slow down your burn speed to 4X until you get your firmware updated.
