Okay i am kinda of computer saavy, but have no idea why this is happening all of the sudden.
I open shrink and pick a movie and it does the usually 1 min. analyze, then when i press the analyze button again for the longer analyze it goes fine for awhile. then all of the sudden my computer shuts down. By the way i don't see how this is connected to it but right before it shuts down my wireless netgear program comes up everytime it shuts down. this same problem also happens with nero2 recode. also i notice that the remaining time left for shrink was like an hour which normally takes 15 mins before my computer turns off.. this is so wierd.
By the way i have ran my anti-virus and also windoctor too. anybody please help or heard of this happening, i have been using shrink for like 2 years now never hapened before.

Is this happening with all movies or just one in particular. Shrink crashes and does other odd things when it encounters the newer encryption methods found on various newer movies.
If this is the case you should use another program first to get past this.
Here are a couple...
DVDFab Decrypter

AnyDVD

I'd also check to make sure that something isn't eating up your system's rescources, Go into Msconfig and shut down un-needed apps... or at least take a look and see what is running.
You can also do a system restore if you have XP.

You might try opening up your computer case and see if you have a dust build up on the CPU fan or in the air inlet areas. Shrink uses pretty much all of your CPU power and it will shut down if it overheats. Recode is a very similar program and can cause the same thing. We have seen this happen quite a few times.
Like I mentioned first, make sure you close un-needed applications to try and reduce the cpu load as much as possible.

thanks frank, for thoughts, but it is shuting off in the analyzing part not the encoding part. isn't the encoding part take more than the analyzing part? not sure, but i think that has to be it that the processer is overheating thus that is why it is shuting off. by the way a have a pent 4, 3.21 ghz. payed a lot of money for it so i hope i don't have to replace it or get a new one. i will try cleaning the CPU fan though and try and use shrink and see what happens. thanks again for the info.

Deep Analysis actually does use quite a bit of processor power. I'm looking at the movie "Firewall" during deep analysis and showing about 79% CPU usage with Task Manager. I'm also on the internet typing this as well so that will skew it up a bit. I'm running two Xeon 3.2 Ghz processors so I'd imagine your usage would be somewhat higher. If it is overheating, then when it shuts down that would protect the processor...hopefully!

frank do you know if there is any way you can have shrink only use a certain amount of the CPU usage? I ask because when i had shrink going again the CPU usage showed 100% and did the same thing where it shut my computer off. i also do have in the bios a set temp where it does shut down if the temp reaches it. i also ask because i downloaded another encodeing program called dvd ez workshop and ran it my cpu usage was only going around 50% and my computer didn't shut down although it took a long time for the program to finish.

Try running Shrink in the low priority mode.
Click Edit then Preferences and then check the "Run analysis and backup in low priority mode to improve multi-tasking."

thanks frank for info
you were right about the dust because i opened it up and there was ALOT of dust, Dust everywhere. turns out it was full of dust in the heatsink over my processor and that caused the problem of shuting down, so i cleaned out all the dust and everything works like a charm now.
Thanks again for the info.
peace.

I know it's a PITA, but it's actually a good thing Windows does that (shutting down the computer when it's super hot because of dust). It's a good reminder to get you to take care of business lol.
Also, just as a tip, you shouldn't multitask--if that is your reason for running it in low priority mode.
