Recently I have been getting an "Out Of Meory" message while DVD Shrink is encoding. I had 512 MEG of Ram on an E machine with AMD 3300+, 160 GB HD with 130 GB free. I allocated more space in the paging file to 5GB but no help. I bought and installed aother 512meg. of ram and no help. I get this message after about 35-40% of encoding, even though the total movie is only 4.2GB including the extras and stuff. I was able to back up a recent movie with the same problem by reauthoring only the main movie which was about 3.9 GB in length. I have done a disc cleanup, refragmented, reinstall of Shrink, but nothing seems to help. Not all movies are a problem and the other E machine works just fine, though slower due to the slower processor speed. Anything you can suggest is appreciated. I have successfully backed up over 550 movies and just recently ran into this problem on this computer. I don't believe the Lite ON burners are the problem as the process is halted in the encoding stage. I am not a genius on these matters, and this one has me stumped. Thanks...HELPPPPPPP

you can try this and see if it helps, simply uninstall and reinstall DVD Shrink.

I would also bump your puter to a 1 gig or more of RAM, not that it has anything to do with this problem thou.

If you are ripping newer movies, shrink cannot handle them anymore since it's not being updated anymore.
Check this link on common errors:

Download DVD Fab Decrypter (Free) To rip to hard drive and then run through shrink.

This may not be the answer you're looking for but here goes:

I have spent many years playing with DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. They are excellent tools, but the problem is that these are old software, and DVD manufacturers keep coming out with new encryption.

My suggestion: pay for AnyDVD and CloneDVD. It will always stay updated (AnyDVD updates every week). You will not be sorry. You will spend less time troubleshooting and more time enjoying your movies.

Already tried uninstall and reinstall, and have 1gb ram. I can reauthor this movie "Hidden Adgenda" and backup the movie which is 3,774gb just fine but to backup the complete file which is:
Menus.............................. .84mb
main movie ........................3.774GB
Extras..............................110mb
Unreferenced Material.............. .99mb

Total file size....................3.803GB

I get the "Out Of Memory" message at 44% encoding

I don't understand the "Out Of Memory" message. It may mean something other than what it is advising. I have DVD decripter and have used it sucessfully on other occasions, but cannot figure what the real problem is when getting this "Out OF Memory" message.

@stnbenn

All you need is AnyDVD and it will help all of your old favorites like Shrink and Decrypter work like they used to. CloneDVD is a good program but is not essential if your like Shrink and Decrypter and for that matter, NeroRecode.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. I've always likeed this site for all the help I get with problems. I may buy AnyDVD or one of the others that was suggested. Too bad the Shrink site had to shut down, but I understand the reasons. Thanks again for your help. Stan

are you deleating the image after you burn?, do you have Norton? if you have norton you have to empty the recycle bin.

stnbenn,
The error you are getting is because of the encryption that is on the movie and nothing else. This error code is listed on the Shrink site which is still up and running. The DVDDecrypter site is no longer up and running as Macrovision owns it. Just use AnyDVD or DVDFAB Decrypter and you will be OK

Thanks Car.Mike for the info. I went to the shrink site and yes the error code was listed there as you stated. It was an incription problem rather than hardware. I had never been to the Shrink site as I had installed the software from a disc from a friend. I always used Afterdawn for all my answers to problems with Shrink. Many have suggested AnyDVD and i'll try it for those problem discs. DVD decripter works pretty well also. Thanks again. Stan in the States

Before purchasing AnyDVD you might want to give DVDFab Decrypter a try. It is free and updated often to keep up with the new encryptions on new releases. Many people use it and find no need for purchasing a program like AnyDVD.

The problem is due to a new version of ARccOS. After the rip - run the files thru FixVTS version 1.3.

VobBlanker will also work.
