I am backing up a DVD b/c it's scratched. I thought since I could still watch it on my DVD player that it would shrink and burn but it appears the computer is more sensitive and won't continue to encode once it gets to the scratch. It's giving me a copy protect error message. How can I back up this DVD so I can keep it in my collection?? I thought of trying to use Decrypter to see if it would work through there but I've never used it before (Shrink has always worked for me) I don't know what to do next after Decrypter is done doing its thing. I've never bought Nero, I'm just using the slow version that comes with Shrink. Please help!!

Try ripping with DVDFab Decrypter first and then DVD Shrink as usual. If the scratch is too bad you might not be able to back it up.

Some gaming stores and/or pawn shops have a machine that can resurface a disc. We have a local pawn shop that does it for $1.99 per disc. Call around and ask if they repair cds or movies. It works very well.
Good luck!

I hadn't thought about trying to repair it. It might be less frustration for me just to do that and then back it up once it's fixed to prevent this in the future. Thanks!! :)

Decryptor's file mode and VOBB has been good for me with damaged discs.

Latest AnyDVD to rip > VOBB to blank the unwanted on a DVD > Shrink to compress > ImgBurn to burn = Never starting a thread asking how to backup a movie

I was able to rip it with Decrypter but it's too big for a disc so I had to use Shrink to shrink it and for some reason it won't. I've just given up and will try to take it to a video store or game store to try to get it repaired before trying again. Thanks for all the help you provided! :)
