ok, well i have been using DVD Shrink for a while and I recently reformated my hdd on my windows pc. It has probably been a few months since I did that, and I recently put DVD Shrink, and dvd decoder (for use with DVD Shrink) back on my pc. I am having some problems. It will not decode. I think it mite be something in the os or driver that I didnt reinstall because when I try to straight up play a dvd through windows media player, this is what i get...

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a84/paintbalsk8r15/dvd%20problem...

so, i guess I need some kind of dvd decoder to install, so i downloaded another program called vlc to play my dvds and it works great, but now back to the problem with DVD Shrink, when i try to open a disk under it, i get this message...

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a84/paintbalsk8r15/dvd%20problem...

and then i went on to try and decode a dvd using dvd decoder, and it will start to decode, but it gets to one precent and keeps on reading a certain section of the disk, then gives me this message...

http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a84/paintbalsk8r15/dvd%20problem...

if someone could help me out with this problem i would greatly appricate it, thanks!

my life is my guitar, music, and my computer, with video games throwen in there somewhere.

How about you just tell us what error you are getting as your pics are not showing up. It would be easier, and just what movie are you trying to do, is it all movies or just one or two?

DVD movies have encryption on them that makes them
act wierd in a PC (to prevent you from copying it).

I use AnyDVD to break commercial DVD encryptions,
It has a free 30 day trial and free lifetime updates,
There are other 'free' methods but they take more time and know how,
AnyDVD works in the background and removes the protections from
the disc virtually in real time.

http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html?aid=50022

Im positive it is the protection on rthe disc giving you the problems,
The only other possibility is that the disc id defective and was a bad press,
More often than not you can blame the encryption for your problems.
A NAVIGATION ERROR can ONLY be one of these two options,
Thats why arniebear asked how many time this has happened,
Try using the free trial of AnyDVD on the same disk,
I guarantee it should clear up the problem because the
encryption is what is causing the errors .

GOOD LUCK and welcome to the forums.

well, first thing, it does it with every dvd, and second thing, thats the whole reason i use DVD Shrink, is to get past the encryption which has worked fine up untill i reformated the pc, and i just retried the pics and they work fine, but if you try again and they dont work, ill just copy and paste what they say, cz its some text you can read, mixed in with random bits here and there.

i know its not the decoder on the disc, because i have tried it with disc that i have decoded on this same computer with DVD Shrink in the past, and back then they did it just fine. btw, thanks for welcoming me, but i have been absent frm the fourms for around 6 months, and couldnt remember my username, since i have diffrent ones on diffrent sites, so i had to create a new one.

For the WMP error dl this utility and find out about the decoder. You need a XP compatible decoder or WMP.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=DE1491AC...

You reinstalled your OS possibly you did not install your chipset, or video drivers.

The errors from Shrink and Decrypter look more like protection errors, or a bad disk. Try ripping with DVDFab Decrypter, its free, and then open Shrink and process.

The problem is DVD Shrink CAN NO LONGER bypass the protections,
It has been discontinued for some time.
You need a NEW decrypter method that can bypass the newer
encryptions (arcoss and ripguard).

You can use AnyDVD or as arnie suggested DVD fab decrypter,
But now a days DVD Shrink is outdated and cannot do it alone.

AnyDVD and DVD Shrink works great together,
Because AnyDVD can defeat the new encryption and allow
to use DVD Shrink as you have in the past.

so, im guessin i need to find a mpeg2 decoder now to be able to play dvds under wmp. so where do i need to go to get that? thanks.

Do you have Nero, because that should give you the decoders in the program and they should work with the other programs, although microsoft says it won't. Try the free trial of Nero it will install the decoders into your system, even if the trial runs out the decoders will still work.

http://filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845

Or, you can go here for some free ones, I assume they work, although have not tried them myself.

The one that came with the PC is probably only the burning rom of the program. Download the package in LOCOENG's post that one should give you all you need.
